One key question from the audience was: How do you choose between contributing to a Retirement Annuity (RA) and a flexible unit trust investment?

Here’s a quick breakdown:

🏦 Retirement Annuity (RA)

Pros:
-Tax-deductible contributions up to a certain limit 💰
-Protection from creditors
-No estate duty!
-Great for individuals who are not very disciplined at savings.


Cons:
-Limited access to funds and withdrawal restrictions ⛔
-Investment choices limited as they are subject to Regulation 28


🌱 Flexible Unit Trust

Pros:
-No Lock-In Period: Flexible withdrawals
-Greater flexibility and diversification in fund selection

Cons:
-Contributions are not tax-deductible ❌

I literally live and breathe what I teach!!

I just had to share these pics with you! In this one, I was showing the ladies how my personal budget looks like. I've been using a budget since my twenties, and it’s truly been a game changer for my spending habits!

🔑 Key to Successful Budgeting: Differentiate between expenses that are needs and expenses that are wants.

Needs are essentials that keep us afloat—think rent, kids’ fees, basic groceries, and fuel for the car etc.

On the other hand, wants are those delightful extras that aren’t necessary for survival—like that 68-inch TV you have been dying to get, takeout from Uber Eats, or the latest Gucci handbag.

✨ It’s totally okay to indulge in those wants every now and then! We all deserve a little splurge. Just remember to be mindful of your spending, making sure you’re saving and investing enough before diving into those “soft life” items!

Let’s make our money work for us while enjoying life!

Financial Planning to the World

This past Saturday, Scelo Zuma, the owner of Isicelo Skills Sport Development, hosted the Pinetown Junior Super Cup tournament that brought together parents and children for an amazing fun filled day.

Mr Zuma invited me to speak to the parents about Financial Planning.

I focused on the topic of Protection and Provision, emphasizing the essential roles parents play in both providing for and protecting their children. It’s crucial that we extend this responsibility into our financial lives.

Here are the key points I shared:

Emergency Fund: It’s vital to have savings set aside to cover unexpected expenses that may arise for our children. An emergency fund helps ensure we are prepared for the unforeseen.

Financial Protection: We must safeguard our own financial stability. This means having plans in place to protect ourselves against job loss, serious illness, permanent disability, or even death. Options like Life Cover, Income Protection Cover, Dread Disease and Capital Disability Cover can help ensure that our children’s quality of life remains unaffected in challenging times.

Last Will and Testament: Creating a Will is essential to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, providing financial stability for your children in the event of your passing.

I hope the parents were inspired to implement these financial tips in their households.

✨ A Journey of Divine Connections ✨

Reflecting on my journey, it’s clear that God has guided my steps. It was a true "Godincidence" when I sat next to Thobile Jele at the 2023 Sanlam Women’s Month Celebration in Umhlanga. Thobile Jele is the owner of Fancyclaws, a renowned and highly regarded beauty salon where I go to indulge in pampering and self-care.

After sharing my passion for financial planning, we agreed I would speak to her team, and almost a year later, it finally happened! 🙌

We tackled essential topics, including how to create a budget, the importance of saving, investing money in growth assets and the importance of planning for a secure retirement. We also explored the common reasons people find themselves in debt and discussed practical solutions to avoid those pitfalls. It was an engaging conversation that empowered everyone to take control of their financial futures! 🌟💪💰


It’s essential to remember to stay within our financial lanes and focus on long-term goals: achieving financial stability, saving diligently, investing in growth assets, and planning for retirement.

The ladies were engaged and eager to implement the financial concepts discussed. I’m excited to see them thrive! 💪💰
