β€œTHABO, MY BUSINESS IS MAKING MONEY NOW. DO I REALLY NEED TO REGISTER IT?”

Good question! πŸ‘€

Maybe you started selling from home.

Then customers started coming.

WhatsApp orders increased.

Now you're thinking:

β€œMaybe it's time to make this thing official.”

But here's something important:

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Not every small business automatically needs to become a registered company.

Your decision should depend on what you're building and where you want the business to go.

If you're planning to grow, approach bigger clients, enter the formal business sector or pursue certain government opportunities, formalising your business may become important.

But remember:

❌ Registering a company doesn't mean you're automatically compliant forever.

Registration is the START.

You still have ongoing responsibilities relating to your company records, tax and other requirements that may apply to your business.

πŸ”₯ Thabo says: Don't register just to have a certificate. Register because you have a plan for your business!

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ Where is YOUR business right now?

A: Still informal
B: Thinking about registering
C: Already registered
D: Registered… but I don't know if I'm compliant 😭

If you chose D, you're definitely going to want Episode 12! πŸ˜‚

πŸ“ˆ BUSINESS OWNER: ARE YOU GROWING… OR ARE YOU JUST BUSY?

Customers are coming in.

The phone is ringing.

Stock is moving.

You're working seven days a week.

So the business must be growing… right? πŸ‘€

Not necessarily.

Thabo wants you to check just FIVE numbers every week:

πŸ’° Sales β€” how much did you sell?

🧾 Expenses β€” how much did running the business cost?

πŸ’΅ Cash available β€” how much money is actually available?

🀝 Money customers owe you β€” how much of your money is still outside?

πŸ“¦ Stock β€” how much money is sitting in products?

Then compare this week with last week.

Don't just say:

β€œBusiness was good this week.”

Ask:

β€œWhat do my numbers say?”

Because you can be extremely busy and still have a business that's struggling.

πŸ”₯ Thabo says: A busy business looks good. A growing business shows it in the numbers!

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ BUSINESS OWNERS: Which number do you currently track?

A: Sales only 😭
B: Sales and expenses
C: All five
D: I don't track anything yet

No judgement β€” that's why we're building this series!

😭 BUSINESS OWNERS: YOUR BOOK SAYS THE MONEY SHOULD BE THERE… BUT IT'S NOT!

And when you count your stock, something is missing there too.

This is where small businesses can quietly lose money.

One cold drink here.
One loaf there.
Wrong change.
Something expires.
Someone takes something and forgets to record it.

Each one looks small.

Add them together over a month and suddenly you're asking:

β€œBut where is my profit?” 😭

Thabo's advice is simple:

πŸ“¦ Count your important stock regularly.
πŸ“’ Record what you buy.
πŸ›’ Record what you sell.
⚠️ Record damaged, expired or personally used stock.
πŸ’° Compare your expected cash with what you actually have.

And when something doesn't balance, investigate the difference instead of guessing.

Thabo says: If you don't count it, you won't know you're losing it!

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ Business owners: how often do you count your stock?

A: Every day
B: Every week
C: Once a month
D: Count stock? 😭

Don't choose stock because you like it!!

IT'S A BUSINESS, NOT A BANK!

😭 KASI BUSINESS OWNERS, HOW MANY PEOPLE OWE YOU RIGHT NOW?

β€œBoss, ngiboleke nje. Ngizokhokha Friday!”

You know the story. Friday arrives. Suddenly, the customer is not answering calls. Meanwhile, you need money to restock! πŸ’€

Helping a regular customer is one thing. Allowing unpaid credit to drain your business is another.

Thabo's advice:

βœ… Write down every credit sale.
βœ… Record the amount and agreed payment date.
βœ… Set clear limits before offering credit.
βœ… Follow up politely when payment is due.
βœ… Don't keep extending credit when previous amounts remain unpaid.

And remember, money owed to you cannot pay your supplier until it is collected.

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ Let's hear it! Which customer owes you money?

A: My neighbour 😭
B: My friends and family πŸ’€
C: Customers I barely know!
D: I stopped giving credit!

😭 KASI BUSINESS OWNERS, LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT MONEY IN THE TILL!

You need groceries at home, school transport money or cash for an unexpected expense.

You open the till, take R200 and tell yourself, β€œI'll put it back tomorrow.”

But tomorrow comes… and the money is gone! 😭

Here's the problem: if you keep taking money without recording it or planning ahead, you may struggle to buy stock, pay bills or understand how your business is really performing.

βœ… Decide how much you can afford to take.
βœ… Record every withdrawal.
βœ… Keep enough money aside for stock and business expenses.
βœ… Review your cashbook regularly.

Your business should support your household β€” without starving the business that supports it.

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ Be honest: how do you pay yourself?

A: I take money whenever I need it.
B: I take a set amount.
C: I don't separate business and personal money yet.

No judgement. Let's learn together!
