Finance teams are busy. Deadlines aren't going anywhere.

But with the right people, the right technology and a well-planned implementation, change doesn't have to mean disruption.

Sometimes, the best way to find more time is to change how you spend it.

“The reporting experience is completely different now. We no longer spend hours on data gathering and formatting. Instead, we’re reviewing insights and adding value to the business. It has allowed us to step back and think more strategically.” - Aimee Roux CA(SA), Group FP&A Manager at Maziv.

Last Friday, the Finnivo team got together at the Country Club Johannesburg (CCJ) for our Quarterly Connect.

It was a great opportunity to step away from our desks, catch up on what’s happening across the business and celebrate the progress we’re making together.

We heard updates from each business unit — a great reminder of how every team plays an important role in our collective success and how much we can achieve together.

And of course, it wasn't all work! We also had plenty of laughs (and some healthy competition!) playing the Hot & Cold game. 🔥❄️

It's always good to get everyone together, share ideas, have a laugh and reconnect as a team.

But so does repeating the same manual reporting process every month.

A Finnivo implementation typically takes 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀, with different stakeholders involved at different stages.

The question is what happens after that.

We believe they should.

At Finnivo, our reporting specialists come from finance backgrounds themselves.

As Alwyn Pretorius puts it: “The people doing the implementation need to understand not only how the software works, but the finance processes it is being introduced to support.”

And because they understand finance, they can work more independently, make reasonable assumptions and bring the client back in when input or approval is actually needed.

Because finance teams still have a day job.

A finance technology implementation doesn’t need everyone, all the time.

Different stages need different people.

IT may be needed to establish access and integration.

Finance needs to define reporting structures, templates and what the numbers ultimately need to look like.

Implementation specialists then need to take that understanding and build a solution that works.

As Alwyn Pretorius explains: “Think of an implementation as a sequence of different expertise rather than one continuous demand on the same group of people.”

“We know our reporting process needs to change. We just don’t have the time to change it.”

It’s a challenge many finance teams face.

Month-end doesn’t stop. Budgets and forecasts still need to be delivered. Management still expects accurate information on time.

So when exactly is the “right” time to implement new finance technology?

The reality is, there may never be a quiet period.

The answer is not necessarily finding more time. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

In our latest article, Alwyn Pretorius looks at how finance teams can structure an implementation around existing demands, rather than waiting for an elusive quiet period.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲?

For Lorraine de Villiers, Group Financial Manager at Acorn Agri & Food, the answer is simple: “I’d like more quality time with my husband and kids, but without the rushed feeling we tend to have when life is busy.”

More time for a long walk. A good movie. Or simply being together without constantly watching the clock.

Because the value of greater efficiency isn't always about doing more.

Sometimes, it's about feeling less rushed and having more time for the people and moments that matter.

If implementing new technology is intended to streamline processes and free up time for finance professionals to focus on what’s truly important, then more technology should also mean that finance teams get more of their own time back beyond work.  “Finance teams aren’t asking for more time b...
