Disagree with a SARS assessment? You may have the right to challenge it.

A formal objection allows you to explain why you believe an assessment or decision is incorrect — but strict deadlines apply.

📌 Generally, a Notice of Objection must be submitted within 80 business days.

And if your objection is disallowed or only partially allowed, you may have the right to appeal.

If you’re a provisional taxpayer, now is a good time to start getting your tax affairs in order.

You may fall into the provisional tax category if you earn certain income outside your normal remuneration, such as:

• Business income
• Rental income
• Freelance income
• Investment income
• Other qualifying income

With the December holidays followed by the January rush, leaving your tax documents until the last minute can make the process even more stressful.

The 2026/27 EMP501 Interim Reconciliation period is approaching.

From 21 September to 31 October 2026, employers will need to reconcile their payroll information for the period 1 March to 31 August 2026.

Now is the time to check that your:

✔️ EMP201 declarations
✔️ PAYE, UIF & SDL
✔️ SARS payments
✔️ IRP5/IT3(a) information

are accurate and up to date.

Don’t leave payroll errors until the last minute. Start preparing now and give yourself time to identify and resolve any discrepancies.
