It's tax scam season! Thousands of people have lost millions of dollars and their personal information to tax scams.

Scammers use the regular mail, telephone, or email to set up individuals, businesses, payroll and tax professionals.

How to know if it's really the IRS...

The IRS initiates most contacts through regular mail delivered by the United States Postal Service.

However, there are circumstances in which the IRS will call or come to a home or business.

These include when a taxpayer has an overdue tax bill, a delinquent (unfiled) tax return or has not made an employment tax deposit.

Even then, taxpayers will generally first receive several letters (called "notices") from the IRS in the mail.

If someone claiming to be with the IRS does any of these things, report them immediately.

You can also call the IRS Tax Fraud Hotline recording at (800) 829-0433.

Knowledge shared is power. It's true, but there's a catch: Not all free advice is trustworthy or will work for your business and type of situation. Also, people don't value something as much when they get it for free.

A solid strategy, however, reflects the core values of your business and mission. Also, good strategies are actionable. For example, a good financial strategy addresses how the business will use or invest the money it controls in order for it to reach its goals and achieve its mission and vision.
