One of the quietest green flags in a financial relationship is this: both partners can speak to the plan.

Not just the one who manages the accounts.
Not just the one who shows up to the meetings.

Both of them.

I have seen what happens when that is not the case.

A spouse blindsided by a decision they did not know was coming.
A family trying to navigate a financial transition without shared context.
A plan that was technically solid and emotionally isolating.

Shared understanding is not just good for communication.

It is a form of protection.
It means the plan survives the moments when life does not cooperate.

If both you and your spouse can walk through your financial picture with confidence, that is genuinely something worth celebrating.

If you cannot yet, The Great Wealth Transfer in my link in bio is a meaningful place to begin building that together.

At some point many high achievers make a shift that is easy to miss in the moment.

The goal stops being: use money to build a meaningful life.

It becomes: make more money.
It is not greed, usually. It is momentum.

The discipline and drive that built the wealth just keeps running past the point where it is serving the original purpose.

And the cost shows up slowly.

In relationships that get less attention.
In health that gets traded for productivity.
In generosity that keeps getting pushed to the next season.
In rest that never quite becomes a priority because there is always something more important.

Money is a remarkable tool.

The moment it becomes the mission, it starts costing more than it produces.

The most meaningful plans I build with people start with one question: what is this wealth actually for?

Everything else follows from there.

That answer has more to do with your financial peace than any return ever will.

The Great Wealth Transfer in my link in bio explores this season of wealth in a way that I think will resonate.

I would love to think through it together.

What is your money for?
Can you answer that in one sentence?

Starting early is not only about giving teens more time to invest. It’s about helping them understand their choices, ask thoughtful questions and feel more confident managing money in the future.

Families see joint accounts that let kids invest as a way to teach financial literacy and protect against an uncertain future.

This week’s reading list explores how we make decisions, whose opinions we trust, and how thoughtful planning can help protect what matters most.

• Letting go of people-pleasing
• Knowing when to trust your intuition
• Using trusts to preserve and transfer wealth

Take a look at this week’s featured articles and let me know which one resonates with you.

The Marcus Aurelius people-pleasing paradox: we love ourselves most, yet hand the final verdict to others. Why?

Net worth is not the same thing as financial security.

I know that sounds counterintuitive.

But I have sat with people whose numbers looked excellent on paper and who would have been in real trouble if the wrong thing happened at the wrong time.

Wealth concentrated in a business that had not been properly valued.
A personal balance sheet with almost no real liquidity outside the company.
An estate plan that had not been reviewed in years.

No clear picture of what actual financial exposure looked like in a difficult scenario.

The account balance looked fine.
The plan underneath it did not.

Financial security is knowing your plan holds up under pressure, across different scenarios, for the people who are counting on you.

Building that kind of security is genuinely different from building a high balance.

And it is worth doing with the same intention you brought to everything else.

The Great Wealth Transfer in my link in bio is a meaningful place to start thinking about this.

The three conversations that matter most at this level of wealth are the ones that almost never get scheduled.

Estate planning.
Tax strategy.
Legacy intentions.

Not once at onboarding and then filed away, but revisited every year as life, family, and the law continue to shift around you.

I have seen beneficiary designations untouched for fifteen years.

Estate plans drafted before a business was built, before children arrived, before a major life transition changed everything.

Tax strategies that made sense in a very different income environment and had never been looked at again.

None of these were oversights by unintelligent people.

They were oversights in relationships where these conversations were never made a priority by the advisor.

Your advisor should be the one who raises this, not you.

If they have not, that is worth paying attention to.

The Great Wealth Transfer in my link in bio goes deep on what this planning looks like.

We all put things off sometimes, but procrastination can cost more than just time.

It can affect productivity, decision-making, stress, health, and even long-term financial well-being. This piece from The Economist is a helpful reminder that small delays can add up, and taking one thoughtful step forward can often be the best place to start.

Procrastination doesn’t just steal time—it can take a real toll on earnings, health, and mental well-being. From the Economist: Thwarting the thief of time

I have worked with people who had more than enough and still could not let themselves spend.

Not because they were careless.

Because the mindset that built the wealth had never been updated to reflect the wealth that actually existed.

Every dollar spent carried a quiet anxiety.
Every indulgence felt like a risk.

And the financial plan, which should have provided confidence and clarity, had never actually told them what they were free to do.

A good plan does not just protect your wealth.

It defines what you have permission to do with it.
It shows you, with real numbers behind it, that you can give generously, experience things that matter, and stop deferring a life you have more than earned.

If financial anxiety does not match your actual situation, that gap is worth examining.

The answer is usually not more saving. It is more clarity.

The Great Wealth Transfer in my link in bio is a good place to think through this.

Or reach out.
I would love to have this conversation.

Is there something you have been putting off because money still feels like an obstacle?
