What โ€œworkedโ€ at a smaller size starts to strain: more jobs, more vendors, more payroll, more questions, more moving pieces and suddenly it feels like youโ€™re constantly catching up.

When I talk about systems that donโ€™t slide backward, I donโ€™t mean fancy software or complicated processes. I mean ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘๐‘ฆ ๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘๐‘  ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ก โ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘‘ ๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘’: consistent job setup, clear responsibilities, repeatable coding rules, and a month-end close thatโ€™s predictable instead of exhausting.

And hereโ€™s the part I care about most: not just cleaning things up once, but building a rhythm that keeps giving you ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐š๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก - even when youโ€™re busy, even when life happens.

If youโ€™re ready for a back office that feels supportive instead of stressful, reach out. My team and I have limited January availability, and the next step is simply a message: tell me whatโ€™s feeling messy and Iโ€™ll reply with how weโ€™d approach it.

I hear this a lot: โ€œCarrie, I have reportsโ€ฆ but I donโ€™t really trust them.โ€

And honestly, that makes total sense. When the numbers donโ€™t feel solid, itโ€™s hard to relax enough to use them.

Most of the time itโ€™s not a competence problem. Itโ€™s a ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘  ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘๐‘™๐‘’๐‘š. A few things drift: job costs hit the wrong place, an account hasnโ€™t been reconciled, payments sit unapplied, someone codes everything to one bucket just to get it done and suddenly the reports feel like a moving target๐ŸŽฏ

What I love doing is helping you ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘’ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ ๐‘ค๐‘’๐‘Ÿ in a way you can actually ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ. Then we put a simple rhythm behind it so you keep getting the answer consistently: reconciliations that happen, clear coding rules, and a close process that doesnโ€™t drag on for weeks. And as a fractional team, we save you the cost of a full time position.

If youโ€™ve been feeling unsure of your numbers, youโ€™re not alone. You just need a ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘’๐‘Ÿ ๐‘ ๐‘ฆ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘š. I can help you create the answer and keep it consistent going forward. I have client spots open in January. DM if you want support.

Cash flow stress is such a Even strong businesses can feel like theyโ€™re holding their breath because money comes in unevenly, retainage hangs out there, a big bill hits at the wrong time, and payroll shows up like clockwork.

One of the biggest relief moments I see is when we move Nothing fancy. Just: whatโ€™s coming in, whatโ€™s going out, what absolutely has to be paid, and what can wait.

Pair that with a consistent AR follow-up cadence (instead of โ€œweโ€™ll circle back laterโ€), and cash starts to feelโ€ฆ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐š๐๐ข๐ž๐ซ.

Iโ€™m a big believer that you donโ€™t need a perfect forecast to feel better. You need ๐’—๐’Š๐’”๐’Š๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’„๐’‚๐’ ๐’•๐’“๐’–๐’”๐’• ๐’‚๐’๐’… If youโ€™ve ever refreshed your bank balance a few too many times before making a decisionโ€ฆyouโ€™re in very good company.

I donโ€™t see that as โ€œbad decision-making.โ€ I see it as what happens when you donโ€™t have a trustworthy story behind the numbers.

Most owners I work with arenโ€™t afraid of decisions - ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’๐‘ฆโ€™๐‘Ÿ๐‘’ ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘‘ ๐‘œ๐‘“ ๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘ค๐‘–๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘ก ๐‘ ๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘–๐‘‘ ๐‘“๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”. When the books are behind or reports are inconsistent, every decision gets heavier:
โŸฉCan we hire?
โŸฉCan we take on this job?
โŸฉCan we buy that equipment?
โŸฉDo we actually have the cash, or does it just look like we do today?

๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ ๐๐ž๐œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ come from a few practical things working together: reconciled accounts, job costs landing correctly, a close process that finishes, and a basic forward-looking cash view.

If you want help putting that foundation in place, my team and I have a couple openings for new clients in January. Send me a message and weโ€™ll talk through whatโ€™s going on and what Iโ€™d fix first.

When one door closes, another opens.

I have never in all my years thought of the move from one year into a new one as a door. And why I am this year, makes me go "Hmmm".

Maybe it is because I'm excited for 2026 and what it promises.

Or maybe it is the several large moments from 2025 making the change feel like an ending.

What I do know is the picture below represents how I'm feeling about one door closing and the other opening.

I boxed up our Christmas decorations. I do it every year - the same ones go in the same boxes they came out of. I just ended up looking at them differently this year and being a bit melancholy instead of peaceful as a door closes.

And as customary, I made ham, cabbage and black eyed peas that one must consume on New Year's Day. I make these 3 items in different fashion every year and do not usually think twice about it. But as I worked in the kitchen today, I started feeling that 2026 will bring new and exciting things...the door opening.

I had no intention of making a "Look back" post and I don't think I did, but I certainly seemed to have some thoughts on change.

If you've made it this far in this post with me, thank you! I wish everyone a happy New Year๐ŸŽŠ

May your houses be full of joy and your year prosperous in ways you could never imagine.

Cheers to 2026โœจ

If one of your goals this year is getting your financials organized so you can stop guessing, Iโ€™m cheering you on and wishing you a strong start and a steady year ahead.

And if 2025 felt messyโ€ฆyouโ€™re not behind. Youโ€™re building. โ€œMessyโ€ usually just means the business grew faster than the systems did (been there and I see it all the time).

Hereโ€™s to 2026 bringing you:
โ†ฆClear numbers you can actually trust
โ†ฆSteadier cash flow that helps you breathe
โ†ฆDecisions that feel grounded, not like a panic-scroll through your bank balance
โ†ฆA back office that supports the business youโ€™re growing (instead of constantly playing catch-up)

You donโ€™t need perfection to move forward; just better information and a simple rhythm that you can maintain.

Wishing you a strong start and a steady year ahead.

Merry Christmas. ๐ŸŽ„

Iโ€™ve been thinking a lot this season about how much trust is wrapped up in the work we do and I donโ€™t take that lightly.

When you invite someone into the financial side of your business, youโ€™re inviting them into the real stuff: decisions, pressure, goals, and the unknowns that come with running a company.

Thank you for letting us be part of that this year. We are genuinely grateful for you - for your partnership, your honesty, and the work we get to do together.

My prayer for you: peace in your home, rest you actually feel, and a New Year thatโ€™s steady, hopeful, and full of good things for you, your family, and your business.๐ŸŽ„โœจ

If your business runs on jobs or projects, your job costing might be telling half-truths even if your team is doing their best.

The hidden cost of messy job costing isnโ€™t accounting. Itโ€™s decisions:
๐Ÿ’ฐPricing the next project off the wrong margin
๐Ÿ’ฐHiring based on false confidence
๐Ÿ’ฐTaking on work that looks profitableโ€ฆ until it isnโ€™t
๐Ÿ’ฐGetting surprised when cash is tight in a โ€œgoodโ€ month

๐‘ต๐’†๐’˜ ๐’€๐’†๐’‚๐’“ ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’”๐’” ๐’Ž๐’๐’—๐’†: Before you set goals, make sure last yearโ€™s job costing can answer these 5 questions:

1. Which project types produced your best margin?
2. Where did you see margin fade and why?
3. Whatโ€™s being missed in project costs (labor burden, tools/software, vendors, travel, rework)?
4. Are โ€œextrasโ€ captured end-to-end (scope changes โ†’ billing โ†’ costs โ†’ reporting)?
5. Do your ops team + accounting team agree on what โ€œdoneโ€ means?

If any of those feel fuzzy, you donโ€™t need more reports. You need a tighter job cost foundation + a monthly cadence you can trust.

This is exactly the kind of January cleanup I help project-based teams complete so owners can run the year with confidence.

If you want it, Iโ€™ll send my one-page โ€œJanuary Job Costing Reality Checkโ€ (simple, practical, no fluff). Comment READY or DM me READY and Iโ€™ll share it.

Quick note: Iโ€™m ๐‘œ๐‘๐‘’๐‘›๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘’ ๐ฝ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฆ ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘๐‘œ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘ ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘ก๐‘  for project-based businesses that want clean job costing + a reliable close cadence early in the year. If you want one, reach out this week.
