Now is the time to schedule an appointment! Once tax season gets going, the deadline will be here before you know it.

Some of my clients are getting tax due notices from the IRS even though they paid their taxes early or on time and the check was cashed. If this happens to you, please don’t panic unless you receive a second notice. We are hoping the IRS figures out how to match the tax to the tax return.

And some are now getting additional direct deposits!? 🤦🏻‍♀️

The IRS staff had been reduced to minimal levels before Covid, processing was delayed during 2020 due to the shutdown, and then they were charged with issuing three stimulus checks and changing tax law at least three times during early 2021. Now they are in the midst of setting up to make advanced child tax credit payments.

Each time they are tasked with a new directive, all of the tax return processing is delayed.

Please make sure you give your CPA a copy of every tax notice you receive - we want to make sure your account with the IRS is correct.

The American Rescue Plan, passed this week, retroactively exempts $10,200 of 2020 unemployment benefits from income tax.

You may need to file an amended return if you received unemployment benefits in 2020 and have already filed your 2020 tax return.

The IRS has granted Texas residents an extension to file taxes for businesses, individuals, and non-profits because of the recent disaster declaration due to the winter storms.

The new deadline is June 15, 2021

IR-2021-43, February 22, 2021 — Victims of this month’s winter storms in Texas will have until June 15, 2021, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.
