Ferrysburg Parks Ballot Proposal 2017 - Protect Your Vote Support the ballot proposal to amend the Ferrysburg City Charter to allow the residents to vote befor

The November Charter Revision ballot proposal is bi-partisan and will not affect your taxes in any way. It is intended to protect our greenspace, recreation opportunities, our property values, and our quality of life. Most importantly, it protects YOUR vote before our city parks can be sold. Our City parks shouldn't be for sale at the whim of 4 City Council members. If the sale of a park is ever n

ecessary, our Parks should only be sold after a vote of all of the community's people. The law already requires a vote of the people, but our City Council found what they believe is a loophole around the law. On Feb 6, 2017 City Council voted down placing the ballot proposal (for the charter amendment to allow citizens to vote before selling parks) on the ballot. A group of Ferrysburg residents decided to start a "Citizen's Initiatory Petition" to place the proposal on the Fall ballot. Signatures have been collected and the proposal will be on the November 7 ballot. Voting "YES" will require a vote of the community before a city park can be sold.

No four people are qualified to decide the value of our parks for the rest of us. Selling our parks should be up to the people in the community, not four members of city council. Please vote YES on the Charter Amendment on November 7. :)

One year ago today was the City Council meeting regarding soliciting proposals to sell the Ferrysburg Nature Preserve for development. Over 80 residents were there to voice their opposition to destroying the FNP for a housing development. It has been quite a roller coaster, but we are optimistic that people will vote for citizen's choice in regards to selling parks. Thank you to everyone that has worked so hard on this project! Please vote YES on the charter amendment that will ensure a vote of the people before a park can be sold by city council.

Development doesn't create net revenue for Cities.

Every city in the world has doubled in size, and doubled again over the years... (and that's the irrefutable nature of math and logic).

If development generates revenue, where did all of the revenue go ?? .... All cities should be swimming in revenue.

With more development, comes more infrastructure expenses and demands on city services.

Development doesn't create revenue, it creates crowding, and crowding leads to blight and flight.

What a City or community really needs is rising property values.
Rising property values result in increased tax revenue, and rising property values are largely dependent
on the desirability and quality of life within the City.
Open space within the city is vital to both quality and desirability of property within the city, and all over the world, the most valuable and expensive real estate in the City abuts the open space. Central Park in New York is a prime example as is lakefront property in Chicago.

Quality of life within the City should be the clear goal of all City Planners or elected City legislators wherever they may be.
Without quality there is only crowding, stagnant or deteriorating property values, blight and ultimately flight for those who can afford to move.

When a city considers selling a park, it would be destroying a valuable asset that affects property values, recreation opportunities, and quality of life. It should be up to the taxpayers in the community to make that decision, not 4 members of city council.

Please vote YES to ensure a vote of the community before a Ferrysburg city park can be sold :)
