While most of America was grilling out, drinking beer and enjoying the fireworks on the 4th of July, I was sitting in a conference room learning about hedging foreign exchange (FX) risk, the transition from LIBOR and EURIBOR to alternative interest rates, BASEL 3 capital requirements and interest rate benchmarks, and participating in workshops on how to edit for the European Central Bank and write clear corporate communications, among other things. I plan on spending my 4th of July holiday the same way every year...

Back in July, I had the pleasure of attending a highly-specialized conference for financial translators in Brussels - l’université d’été de la traduction financière (UETF).

My review and recap of this event was published in this month’s issue of the American Translators Association’s trade magazine, The Chronicle.

I would like to sincerely thank the Société française des traducteurs (SFT), Chris Durban and Dominique Jonkers for organizing this invaluable event.

UETF 2018 featured 18 sessions over three days, delivering invaluable content and helping attendees expand their subject matter expertise, keep abreast of the

Hi everyone!

If you use Twitter and you’ve ever been curious about my career as a translator, I suggest you follow on Twitter (especially starting Monday). The President of the International Federation of Translators, Alexander Dreschel, and an English to German translator and translation tech expert, Jost Zetzsche, decided to create a Twitter account to represent the entire translation and interpretation industry and have different translators and interpreters curate the account every week. They asked for curator nominations a month ago or so and I was nominated by my peers to help launch the account.

I will be taking over the Twitter account on Monday, August 6th.

I would be delighted to see you there!

Love,
Amanda (aka the Adorkable Translator aka representative of the T&I industry on Twitter next week)

This year's American Translators Association conference was particularly rewarding for me. I had the opportunity to advocate for the language services industry to my senators and congressman, I spent some long-awaited time with dear colleagues / friends, and last, but certainly not least, I had a blast on stage with Paula Arturo presenting on translation contracts the last day of the conference.

Highlight of the trip: finding out we presented on the same stage where Jimi Hendrix performed in 1968 and where President Obama gave his famous 'Obama Out' speech in 2016.

Just returned from Quebec City after a wonderful three days attending the Translate In Quebec intensive workshop for French to English and English to French translators. It was incredibly inspiring to learn from so many world-renowned translators, and I am grateful that they were willing to share their knowledge and tips on perfecting the craft.

I attended the On traduit à Québec translation workshop this week. It was an insightful and intense three days of training. Loved every minute of it!

I am excited to announce that my interview with Tess Whitty on contracts is now posted on her Marketing for Translators podcast! In it, we discuss the types of agreements translators receive from clients, red flags to look out for in those contracts and the importance of having your own terms of service as a freelancer.

Give it a listen if you have some time to spare!
