This tax season it struck a deeper cord.😢
💔The start of this tax season has shown me the lingering affects brought on in 2020 by the unexpected death of a family member. 💔
I’m saddened to witness a family’s grief compounded by a legal feud over assets like the family home.
-The trust was incomplete.
-End of Life directive was not located. 📂
My client’s family discussed end of life wishes and who inherited what but the legal process of a will, trust and medical directive was never completed. 📜✍🏼😔
They felt they had plenty of time.⏳😢
A common mistake is the lack of follow through. Estate planning is a process.
A living trust must be funded meaning assets must be transferred to the trust. Trusts are set up to avoid probate and ensure assets are managed in cases of disability.
If these steps aren’t taken, the trust is empty; it owns no assets. All the assets are subject to probate. 🏠⚖️
