Quick quiz answer: B âś…
On an accrual basis, money received for work you haven’t done yet isn’t revenue. It’s a liability: unearned revenue.
You owe the client the work. Until you deliver it, that $4,000 is a promise, not income.
If you record it as revenue today, this quarter looks stronger than it really is, and next quarter, when you actually do the work, shows nothing to match it. Your reports tell the wrong story twice.
The cash is real. It just isn’t earned yet. Those are two different things, and good books keep them apart.
How did you answer? A, B, C or D? 👇
