🙃And just like that, 2026 came in quietly. I fell asleep about 11:15 PM and thought I would be woken up with fireworks, noise and general celebration as midnight hit. I was surprised when I woke up around 1 AM and realized nothing woke me up at midnight. Did I sleep through the merriment or was it just a really, quiet midnight?

Hello world!! Gosh it's been so long since I posted anything here. I will try to do better.

Tax season is...well...taxing for everyone. How is everyone coming along with getting their work ready for their tax professionals? I know, I know, next year you will do better.

Well why not start now? Grab all your papers and begin getting them ready. Set a timer for 1 hour and see where you are then. Just begin.

Postage rates increased for several types of mailings. Here is a current list.

We want to make you aware of some postage increases that are being implemented by the USPS next week. As of Sunday, SendOutCards will be charging the new postage cost for all card sends to ensure no pause in sending occurs. We sincerely appreciate your understanding!

Effective January 1, 2022 the IRS is closing a few of their mailing locations, including San Francisco. FYI don't mail anything here close to this closure date.

Evernote has definitely evolved since I've been using it. Love learning about the new features like importing your Google Calendar information and learning about tasks. Just upgraded to the professional version and looking forward to utilizing more of this product.

Many outside payroll service providers are reputable and have their clients' best interests at heart. But as a best practice, know your due dates for payroll taxes and check your bank accounts online a few days after the date has passed to make sure they were actually paid.

The IRS is closing several email boxes effective January 1, 2022 and mid year 2021. How does this affect you? If you use one of these boxes your payments, tax returns etc can get delayed.

The best way to make payments to the IRS is through their EFTPS (online) payment system. This system is safe because you don't have to worry about your payments getting lost or stolen on it's way to the IRS. If anyone needs help setting this up, please contact me here.

The postponements are beginning to come through for this year too. Now waiting for California to comply.

The IRS announced that it is postponing the April 15 deadline for individual tax returns and payments. The postponement applies only to individual taxpayers. Formal guidance is expected in the near future.

There has been a lot of talk on the news about people having their unemployment benefits taken by an unknown source. This has mostly centered around the Employment Development Dept, the agency that provides UI benefits in California. Annual unemployment benefit totals are provided to you on a 1099-G. If you receive one that is wrong please contact the appropriate state agency that provides your UI.

IR-2021-24, January 28, 2021 — The Internal Revenue Service today urged taxpayers who receive Forms 1099-G for unemployment benefits they did not actually get because of identity theft to contact their appropriate state agency for a corrected form.
