Did you receive unemployment benefits in 2020? If so, it may be beneficial to wait before filing your taxes this year.

The proposed Coronavirus Unemployment Benefits Tax Relief Act aims to remove taxes on up to $10,200 in unemployment aid for tax year 2020.

If the bill is passed its outcome can directly impact your tax bill/refund.

Remember you have until April 15th to file your personal taxes. If you received unemployment benefits in 2020 and choose to file before the bill gets approved or denied, you may have to file an amended return to get those benefits.

I'm always happy to help, send me a message!

Proposed legislation introduced yesterday would remove taxes on up to $10,200 in unemployment aid for the 2020 tax filing year.

Happy Monday!

Here's a quick reminder that the IRS will begin accepting tax returns for 2020 on Friday, February 12, making it the official start of tax season!

A couple things to remember:
1. Make sure to collect and provide all tax forms when filing. If you need ideas on what forms may apply to you, send me a message!
2. In most cases we can file your return electronically, and by adding your direct deposit information the IRS can process and release your refund faster!
