If you use QuickBooks, you may want to stick around for this one!

A lot of business owners are only scratching the surface of QuickBooks, so today I wanted to share three features that can save you time and give you better clarity on where you truly are with your business.

Instead of relying on basic single-word rules, combine vendor descriptions with the amounts or specific accounts for auto-categorization.

Another tip is to go beyond the flat P&L statement. Try sorting your data by department or location to see what is actually driving your profit margins.

My last tip is very important too.

You should set up direct receipt forwarding.

You can forward vendor receipts straight to your QuickBooks email to auto-match transactions while staying audit-ready without hunting through your whole inbox.

Have you ever had a time when you had 2 hours to clean your house before family came over, and it took 2 hours, but when you are only given 15 minutes to do the same thing, you manage to do it in that amount of time?

It's an odd concept, and it's summed up by Parkinson's Law, which states, "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion."

So, for example, if your business makes $5,000 a month, you try to figure out how to survive on that $5,000. But when your business grows to $20,000 a month, something very odd happens...

You grow your business in ways like upgrading software, getting a new desk, more networking subscriptions, and the cash sitting in your account starts to trickle away on growth/things you don't need because the money was just waiting to be spent.

And before you know it, $20,000 a month feels even more stressful/tight than a $5,000 month ever did!

I want you to know this is common, and you are not failing your business, you are just simply suffering from space expansion.

So sometimes it's not just about landing bigger deals/clients/contracts; it is about intentionally putting buffers between your main accounts and your daily spending habits before your brain literally finds some way to spend it.
