Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

If your income varies throughout the year, your tax strategy should too.

A lot of people assume steady income when planning, but spikes from bonuses, commissions, or strong business months can change your tax picture quickly.

Without adjusting along the way, it’s easy to fall behind or miss opportunities to plan ahead.

Checking in periodically allows you to stay aligned with what’s actually happening, not just what you expected at the start of the year.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

If your business is growing, your systems should grow with it.

What worked when you first started often breaks down as revenue increases, expenses get more complex, and decisions carry more weight.

Waiting until something feels “off” usually means you’re already behind on the financial side.

Having clean numbers and a simple process for reviewing them regularly makes it easier to make confident decisions throughout the year.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Profit and cash in the bank are not always the same thing.

It’s possible to have a profitable year on paper and still feel tight on cash, especially if you have large purchases, loan payments, or timing differences in income and expenses.

Understanding the difference helps you plan better, avoid surprises, and make more informed decisions throughout the year.

If you want a clearer view of your cash flow, I have a free 90-day cash flow template available on my resources page.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Estimated taxes aren’t optional for many business owners.

If you’re self-employed or earning income without withholding, the IRS expects you to pay in throughout the year, not just at tax time.

Missing quarterly payments can lead to penalties, even if you pay everything when you file.

Planning for estimates helps you stay ahead and avoid surprises when it’s time to file.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

The tax filing deadline is here.

As the 2025 tax season wraps up, most of the decisions for last year are already locked in.

Real tax planning happens throughout the year, when there’s still time to make adjustments and influence the outcome.

What you do between now and next filing season is what really drives the result.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Not every business expense is automatically deductible.

Just because something is related to your business doesn’t mean it qualifies for a deduction.

Expenses must be ordinary, necessary, and properly documented to be allowed.

Getting this wrong can lead to disallowed deductions and unexpected tax bills later.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Time is running out to claim your 2022 tax refund.

The IRS recently announced that over $1.2 billion in refunds are still unclaimed from the 2022 tax year. If you didn’t file a 2022 return, you may still be eligible for a refund.

You must file your 2022 tax return by April 15, 2026. After that, the refund is forfeited.

Even if you didn’t owe taxes, you could still be due money back if you had withholding from your paycheck or qualified for credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit.

There is no failure-to-file penalty if you are due a refund, but refunds are only available for three years. The IRS may also apply your refund to past-due debts, and you will need your 2022 tax documents to file.

If you didn’t file in 2022, this is your last opportunity to claim your refund.

If you need help getting this filed before the deadline, I’m happy to help.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Mixing business and personal expenses can create issues.

When everything runs through one account, it becomes harder to clearly support deductions and accurately report your income and expenses.

That can lead to missed deductions, overstated income, or problems if your return is ever questioned.

Clear separation makes your numbers easier to track, easier to explain, and easier to stand behind.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Making more money can mean paying more in taxes — unless you plan for it.

Higher income increases tax exposure, but there are legitimate strategies to reduce your liability. The key is timing. Most meaningful tax savings happen through planning, not after the year is already over.

There’s no magic loophole — just smart structure, solid record-keeping, and decisions made before December 31.

The goal isn’t to be surprised at filing time.
The goal is to manage your tax liability strategically.

If you want to be proactive about your tax plan instead of reactive in the spring, I’m happy to help.

Tax-Tip Tuesday 💡

Tax planning and tax preparation are not the same thing.

Tax preparation reports what already happened last year.

Tax planning looks ahead and helps you make decisions during the year that legally reduce your tax liability.

Waiting until filing season limits your options. Planning ahead gives you control.

If you own a business, are self-employed, or have growing income, proactive planning can make a meaningful difference.

If you’d like to discuss a strategy before year-end surprises happen, let’s connect.
