PAHH Eviction Diversion Program is helping families in.need.

The week before Christmas, a resident with three dependents was facing eviction. They contacted PAHH seeking assistance with past-due rent and quickly provided all the required documentation. We were waiting for confirmation from the apartment community’s Property Manager that payment would bring the account current and allow the family to remain in their home. Unfortunately, the Property Manager initially advised that the resident would be evicted the following Monday and that nothing could be done.

I asked if they could speak with their Regional Manager to let them know PAHH was actively working with the participant and hoped to assist with bringing the rent current. Shortly after, the Property Manager called back and shared that if PAHH could have payment delivered to the leasing office before the scheduled eviction, they would allow the resident to stay.

However, we needed written confirmation of this agreement to proceed, and the Property Manager would only provide verbal confirmation. This created a standstill on the loan approval while the eviction date quickly approached.

On the day of the eviction, the Property Manager contacted me again and offered to send the resident’s ledger showing the balance due, stating that once the balance was paid in full, the eviction would be cancelled. I immediately reached out to my Executive Director to see if we could accept this documentation and move forward on the resident’s behalf. Thankfully, approval was granted.

PAHH was able to close the loan and deliver the check to the leasing office before the scheduled eviction. Because of that effort, the resident and their three dependents were able to remain in their home and celebrate Christmas together in a place that was still theirs.

Peoples Advantage Helping Hands attended the Inclusiv Regional Convening in New Orleans. At the event, programming for Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union's Match Savings was discussed that support low to moderate income families and individuals.
