A couple of practical changes business owners may want to keep on their radar for 2026:

🟢 The business mileage rate is now 72.5 cents per mile
🟢 The reporting threshold for certain 1099 payments increased from $600 to $2,000

Small changes like these can affect how you track mileage, payments, and year-end reporting, so it helps to stay ahead of them. The IRS announced the 2026 business mileage rate as 72.5 cents per mile, and IRS guidance confirms the higher $2,000 threshold for certain 1099 reporting for payments made in calendar year 2026.

Your books look mostly okay… but:

🟢 accounts haven’t been reconciled
🟢 transactions are sitting uncategorized
🟢 income or expenses have been duplicated

Those three issues alone can throw off your reports and make tax time much more stressful than it needs to be.

A lot of the fix comes down to cleaning up how transactions are recorded, making sure transfers are handled properly, and reviewing reports in a way that uncovers what’s really off.

If your QuickBooks feels “mostly fine” but you’re not fully confident in the numbers, let’s take a look and see what’s really going on.

📌 QuickBooks Update Notice

Beginning next week, February 9th, QuickBooks will automatically send reminder emails for unpaid invoices — even if you haven’t manually turned reminders on.

For any open invoices, a reminder will be sent on the due date and again 3 days later if the invoice is still unpaid.

This change can help improve cash flow, but it’s important to review your reminder settings to make sure they align with how you want to communicate with your clients.
