In 1965, Intelsat I, known as “Early Bird,” became the first commercial communications satellite. For the first time, North America and Europe were connected in real time through space

The satellite enabled regular live transatlantic television broadcasts and supported approximately 240 simultaneous two-way telephone circuits across the Atlantic. The phrase “live via satellite” entered common use as broadcasters began transmitting events across continents in real time.

International coordination became faster and more reliable. Governments, media networks, financial institutions, and corporations could exchange information with far less delay. As information moved faster, decision-making accelerated. Global markets became more responsive. The world became more connected.

Throwing it back to last October's SOUND Mixer when we came together for another unforgettable night of music, culture, and community.

Lex Schmidt introduced us to the Kamale N’goni, a West African harp he studied while traveling with a regional ensemble. The evening featured incredible food from the chef at Mana Greek Fusion — and a handful of guests brought their own instruments for an impressive show-and-tell that kept the energy flowing all night. 🎶🍽️✨

Revisiting memories from our 2024 SOUND Mixers 🎸Back in May we had Bing Futch join our event to introduce us to the incredible Mountain Dulcimer and its place in the world of Folk Music. He takes his craft a step further by merging the traditional folk instrument with looping and effect pedals. Thank you, Bing, for an educational and enjoyable demonstration! We loved hanging out with you.

Food was prepared and served by Hibiscus Streatery ~ Cocktails prepared in house by Molly.
