🚨 RECEIVED AN IRS VERIFICATION LETTER? DON’T PANIC! 🚨

Some taxpayers may receive a Verification of Return Letter from the IRS after filing their tax return. This is not an audit and it does not mean anything is wrong with your return.

In many cases, the IRS simply wants to confirm that YOU are the person who actually filed the tax return. This is part of the IRS’s identity theft protection process.

📬 What the Letter Means:

The IRS sends these letters when they want to verify a taxpayer’s identity before releasing a refund. The letter will contain a special control number that allows the IRS to confirm your return.

🔑 Why This Happens:

The IRS has increased security measures to protect taxpayers from identity theft and fraudulent tax filings. Sometimes returns are randomly selected for verification.

📋 What You May Need:

When completing the verification, the IRS may ask for:
• Your Filing Status
• Your Expected Refund Amount
• The last 4 digits of the bank account number listed on your tax return
• The Control Number from the IRS letter

Once verified, the IRS will continue processing the return.

✨ Important:
This process is normal for some taxpayers and is simply an extra step the IRS uses to protect your identity.
