Just a caution when you are hiring someone else to prepare your taxes. You need to know their qualifications or credentials to prepare a return on your behalf.

Did you know, you can even look a tax preparer up online to verify they have proper certification to prepare your taxes?

It is extremely important to understand what qualifies someone to prepare your tax return. And if they are preparing your return, their name should be on the bottom of that return.

I hear this all the time...

My co-worker and I make the same amount and their refund was SO much bigger!

While it doesn't feel great to get the smaller refund, you've got to consider all of the factors that may be contributing to their larger refund.

Maybe they have more dependents, a self-employed spouse, or have more tax taken out of their check all year.

Comparing your refund to someone else's just doesn’t work. Your best bet is talking with a tax professional to review your personal situation and strategize each year so that come tax filing season, you have no surprises.

📆 Tax season is getting off to a strong start with all of these January tax deadlines (looking at you 1099s!).

As a business owner, here are the deadlines you're going to want to stay on top of!

📆 January 17th: Q4 Individual Estimated Tax Payment is due. If you expect to owe more than $1,000 in taxes in 2022, you should be making estimated tax payments. If you're a W-2 employee, your paycheck withholdings should be covering your obligation. However, if you're self-employed, you're responsible for sending in these payments yourself.

📆 January 31st: This is the date to get Form W-3 filed (to get those W-2s to your employees!) and 1099s out to your contractors.
