NJ employers must now report ALL employee separations electronically through the Employer Access portal, including layoffs, terminations, resignations, and retirements. Failure to comply may result in penalties.

Employers must register for Employer Access using the authorization code included in the annual assessment bill mailed in mid-August. Registration requires a valid email address and applies to businesses required to file Forms NJ927 and WR30.

As tax returns are processed, taxpayers may either receive refunds or be responsible for any balances due. The IRS has recently issued a number of CP53E notices that may cause confusion for taxpayers. These notices reference “missing direct deposit information,” even in cases where a tax return reflects a balance due rather than a refund.

This is an IRS system-generated message tied to missing banking information, not the taxpayer’s actual outcome.

Some notes:

* The CP53E notice is legitimate, not a scam, despite the notice having a QR code.

* The IRS is eliminating refund checks and might be a reason this notice was inadvertently sent to many taxpayers in error.

* Action is not needed.

Proactive taxpayers can log in to their IRS online accounts and enter their direct deposit or withdrawal information. Note that taxpayers have 30 days to update or add bank account information upon receiving a notice.

👶Employers: Offering a Dependent Care FSA helps employees cover child care with pre-tax contributions. Limits rise from $5K → $7.5K in 2026.

Contributions reduce income & payroll taxes; withdrawals for qualified expenses are tax-free. Tax credits exist if no FSA is offered, but FSAs often save more.

🏠 Selling your primary home? If you owned and lived in it for 2 of the last 5 years, up to $250,000 of gain ($500,000 for joint filers) may be tax-free.

Example: A married couple sells for $900K, bought for $250K. After the $500K exclusion, taxable gain is $150K — and can be reduced further by eligible improvements and closing costs.
