Shohei Ohtani has made it clear that he intends to return to the mound in 2027. Following the Los Angeles Dodgers ' elimination from the NLCS against Milwaukee, the two-way superstar confirmed that he plans to resume pitching next season.
Ohtani was outstanding when healthy in 2026, posting a 1.79 ERA across 85 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .179 batting average. However, knee and biceps injuries prevented him from pitching after July 3 and kept him off the mound throughout the postseason.
The 32-year-old admitted he wasn't satisfied with how his season ended and plans to reassess his treatment and training during the offseason. After a disappointing finish for Los Angeles, Ohtani is determined to return stronger in 2027.
