⭐Beginning June 1, 2026, Illinois will require employers with 16 or more employees to provide unpaid, job-protected leave when an employee has a child in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The amount of leave is based on employer size as follows:

Employers with 16–50 employees: Up to 10 days
Employers with 51 or more employees: Up to 20 days
Employees can take this leave intermittently, though employers can require a minimum of two-hour increments. Employees can also choose (though can’t be required) to substitute any other available paid or unpaid leave. Employers must continue employees’ health insurance during the leave.

Documentation: Employers can require reasonable documentation to support that the leave was taken for the covered purpose.

Intersection with FMLA: This leave is in addition to that provided under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and does not run concurrently with it.

More Information: The state is expected to issue frequently asked questions (FAQs) prior to the June 1, 2026, effective date. Employers should monitor the state’s web page for updates.

Action Items: Update your leave policies to reflect this new leave reason.

Most people aren’t broke because they don’t make enough…
They’re broke because they don’t know where their money should go.

Your money needs a system.

How much should stay in checking?
How much should go to savings?
And when should you start investing?

Once you understand the order, managing money becomes a lot less stressful 😎

I help small business owners understand how to manage their personal finances while driving growth in their business.

Comment YES if you’re ready to start investing this year.

If you are self-employed or own a small business, two of the most powerful retirement plans available to you are the Solo 401(k) and the SEP IRA.

Both plans allow for high contribution limits and meaningful tax advantages, but they are structured very differently. Understanding how each plan works can help you choose the option that best supports your income, age, tax strategy, and long-term wealth goals.

Annual bills. Holidays. Back to school. Medical expenses. Travel.

None of these are emergencies. They’re predictable.
But when we don’t plan for them, they feel like emergencies.

That’s why I teach money maintenance.

Not starting over every January.
Just small, intentional check-ins each month that protect your cash flow and reduce stress.

This yearly finance checklist shows you:
✅️ what to review with your budget each month
✅️ how to plan for irregular and seasonal expenses
✅️ when to check savings, debt, and investments
✅️ how to avoid financial surprises before they happen

You don’t need to do everything perfectly, you just need a system that works with your life.

Save this post and come back to it at the start of each month.
