🚨 Small Biz Owners: Don’t Get Scammed Just for Existing 🚨

If you own an LLC in Kentucky (or anywhere, really), you’ve probably gotten a letter like this—official-looking envelopes with bolded deadlines, scary language, and sometimes even barcodes to look legitimate. One of our clients just got the attached letter about a required "Kentucky Annual Report" with fine print suggesting a $175 fee... when in reality, it should have been $15 and filed through the official Secretary of State’s site.

🧠 Here’s the game they’re playing:

These letters are sent by third-party "filing services" that are not affiliated with the state.

They count on you being busy and worried about compliance.

They upcharge or tack on “services” you didn’t need—or ask for.

🤯 The kicker? You’re doing everything right. These folks just scrape public LLC info and fire off letters hoping you’ll pay out of panic.

💡 What to do instead:
✅ Only file your Kentucky Annual Report through the portal.
✅ The 2025 report is due June 30, and the actual fee is $15.
✅ When in doubt, send it to your accountant or coach (hey 👋 that’s us!).

I entered the world of solo entrepreneurship last summer, and while I have many skills, bookkeeping and first time tax preparation for my business are not on the list. After going to two other accounting firms in Lexington and not getting what I needed, I found Cultivate Accounting. It has been a refreshing, positive experience. This amazing tool is 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗮 "𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽", and I wish they would change the name to "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘒𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘺 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘖𝘯𝘦-𝘰𝘧-𝘚𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭-𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘴 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘭", 🤷‍♀️ but, who am I??? Just a lady trying to help people avoid penalties, headaches, and that freak out moment you'll eventually have when you realize you "kinda sorta" set up your business, but not all the way.
