🚨 Let’s clear this up once and for all 🚨
To claim Head of Household on your taxes, the IRS says YOU must pay more than 50% of the cost of keeping up your household. That means rent, utilities, food, and other living expenses.
❌ If you are on Section 8 and the government is paying the majority of your rent…
❌ If you are on food stamps and the government is covering the majority of your food…
➡️ Then YOU are not paying over 50% of your household costs. The government is.
This doesn’t mean you can’t claim your children or receive tax credits you qualify for. But you cannot legally claim the Head of Household filing status unless you meet the IRS requirement of paying more than half of the household expenses with your own income.
📌 Filing correctly protects you from audits, penalties, and having to pay money back later.
