BOLD Money LLC stands on the core value of Service.

You may have noticed this page was a little quiet this past month. From May 6-20, 2026, BOLD Money's CEO & Lead Bookkeeper, Kinna, was on mission with her family in Hungary supporting Morning Star Ranch Ministry. Together with a few of her fellow church members, we helped Morning Star prepare their grounds and their horses for their upcoming summer horse camps. It was a glorious time of unplugged adventure, fellowship with other Kingdom citizens across the globe, and hard work.

Let's talk about one of the most difficult aspects of running a small business - Document Management.

It's not technically difficult. It's just maintaining good records (receipts) of the money inflows & outflows within our personal or business finances. Yet every owner struggles with this. Why? I believe that goes back to our behavior - namely, our habits.

Thankfully, the IRS doesn't dictate HOW you maintain records, only that you do (IRS Publication 583; link in comments). Some of us are low-tech - so this may look like dropping physical receipts in a wallet, banker's bag, or envelope to be taken care of later. Others are hi-tech - they despise the clutter of paper & are comfortable with technology, so they use tech to maintain records by snapping photos, uploading to a cloud storage (Google Drive, Drop Box, etc.) or use their bookkeeping software's Receipt Capture proficiently.

I tend to lean into the Hi-Tech crowd here. While helpful, I much prefer to have the documents backed up into a cloud storage location or attached to the transaction within the accounting software (QuickBooks Online has done some great work with it's receipt capture function within it's accounting suite). It clears the physical clutter & gives nearly-instant access to the supporting documentation when reviewing transactions.

Cash Flow.

It’s hard to do anything well without it. By the time you’re looking to engage a bookkeeper, the question really isn’t “how do I bring cash in?” but rather “am I spending my cash appropriately?”

Why start with bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping is the systematic recording of all money inflows and outflows. By logging every transaction, you get a highly accurate picture of where you’ve been. With that information, you can begin to receive answers to the questions that drive the growth you wish to see - am I bringing in enough income to cover expenses? Is my spending in line with the goals I have for the future, both near & far? Where is there waste that can be reigned in? What products/services are my customers enjoying?

Not to mention, clean books = clean & highly productive tax appointment.
