The IRS just released the new contribution limits for 401k plans in 2026 - you'll get to put an additional $1,000 into your 401k next year (from $23,500 to $24,500).
For W-2 employees, tax saving strategies are usually pretty limited, so taking advantage of your 401k offering at work is a smart move, especially if your employer offers matching contributions.
Tax tip: Instead of tax savings now with traditional contributions, you might want to try Roth contributions which will allow the 401k earnings to grow tax-free and without worry of Required Minimum Distributions.
IR-2025-111, Nov. 13, 2025 — The Internal Revenue Service announced today that the amount individuals can contribute to their 401(k) plans in 2026 has increased to $24,500, up from $23,500 for 2025.
