#4- Successful small business owners are opportunity and knowledge seekers. They are always participating in networking events, attending learning seminars and generally showing up any place where people will be sure to bounce ideas off each other. We are looking to expand our businesses and our knowledge base and know that it can't be done from our living room sofa.

2012 has started out with a bang. I have had several new clients this year so far and a few that are on a "waiting list." I hired another person, I am interviewing still for yet an additional person and my client roster is shaping up to be a list of some truly great people to work for. Life is good.

#3- keeping up standards of high quality. No matter a service or product company, successful business owners know that they always needs to put their best foot forward and that this is forefront in their mind. If you're a retailer selling products, aren't you really selling customer service as well? The best stores know that and appeal directly to that nerve at the customer level.

Important characteristic #2- Perseverance! One of my favor quotes related to successful percevering entrepreneurs is this..." I heard that there is a recession going on but I am not participating." No amount of adversity can bring down the percevering "forge-ahead" personality of the successful business owner.

Here is just some of the stuff that I talk about in seminars et al. For starters, I talk about 5 important characteristics of successful small business owners (not necessarily in order of importance).....

#1- Good planners. They have a business plan on paper whether required to do so or not because they know the value of setting goals and reaching them. And, good planners know that the business needs to be well capitalized. A business plan is the road map to tell you when you will need more operating capital and how much.

How nice has March been? Several new clients including a non-profit and an event planner. Also talking to someone who's starting a PR business.......and I am very excited to be working with a long-standing client on some business advisory work. Off to London this week for a client......love that place! I will return to interviewing hell !! I've got several good resumes on my desk for a new hire.

Interviewing today for another person to add to the staff. Looks like I got another new client yesterday and so it's definitely time to push that "extra staff" button. Really happy about that new client. In the event planning business and looks real solid. Yeah. All interviewing tips are appreciated.

Helping some non-profits this week to get back on track. Need to get these great people to a place where they and their Boards are proud of their financial results. Really good and interesting work, and I can't wait to give back to them.
