At the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference, we were reminded of a powerful quote from Frederick Douglass:

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

Building strong children requires more than intention—it requires access to quality education and meaningful prevention efforts that reduce involvement in the legal system before it begins.

Across plenaries and breakout sessions, leaders from State Advisory Groups (SAGs), advocates, and practitioners highlighted what’s working across the country: sustained investments in education, community-based programming, and diversion strategies that keep young people out of the juvenile justice system and connected to opportunity.

These are not abstract ideas—they are proven approaches that reduce system involvement and strengthen communities when we choose to fund and prioritize them.

The question is no longer whether we know what works; it’s whether we are willing to invest in it. 🌱

At the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference today, we were reminded how powerful it is to be in a room full of people committed to reimagining youth justice across the country 🙌

From plenaries to breakout sessions, we heard about impactful work happening nationwide and the real difference it is making in young people’s lives.

A key takeaway was the importance of State Advisory Groups (SAGs). These governor appointed bodies exist in every state and territory receiving funding under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), helping guide funding, ensure compliance, and strengthen prevention efforts.

Grateful to the Coalition for Juvenile Justice team and Executive Director Melissa Milchman for bringing together SAGs, youth, advocates, and practitioners to learn and move this work forward together 💡

BeRe Stewardship is in the building at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Annual Conference! 📍

We are kicking off the first networking evening and are grateful to be in community with advocates, practitioners, policymakers, and leaders with lived experience from across the country. This year’s focus on the power of partnerships and collective action to advance youth justice strongly aligns with our work.

From prevention to reentry, the conversations ahead are centered on strengthening systems of care and expanding opportunities for young people and families. At BeRe, we are especially excited to continue elevating financial literacy and economic opportunity as essential components of successful reentry and long-term stability.

Thank you to the Coalition for Juvenile Justice for convening such a thoughtful and committed community 🤝 We are looking forward to a few impactful days of learning, collaboration, and action.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been one month since the National Conference on Higher Education in Prison 2026, and we’re still feeling the impact!✨

The conversations and connections made in Cleveland continue to carry forward as we follow up with reentry and education professionals, scholars, returning citizens, and advocates from across the country. 🤝📚

We deeply appreciate everyone’s commitment to doing this work year-round, not just during the conference. Real change happens through continued collaboration, shared learning, and sustained action long after the sessions end.

A special thank you again to the NCHEP team for creating such a powerful space for connection, dialogue, and progress. 💙 The momentum continues, and we’re grateful to be part of this community.

At BeRe Stewardship, we’re taking a meaningful step to ensure our work is guided by the voices and experiences of those most impacted by the criminal justice system. 🗣️ We’re inviting 3 justice-impacted individuals from across the country to join our inaugural Justice-Impacted Advisory Committee. This is a paid opportunity to help shape justice-informed financial literacy education and resources in a way that is thoughtful, relevant, and rooted in lived experience. 💚

As ( ) and come to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect and say thank you💚 At BeRe Stewardship, we’re deeply grateful for everyone who followed along as we raised awareness about the importance of justice-informed financial literacy!

This past month was extraordinary:
✨ 5 Resource & Job Fairs
🎤 2 Speaking Engagements
🤝 3 National Reentry & Education Conferences
🗣️ Countless presentations, forums, and meaningful conversations
📍 1 Unforgettable site visit to Mt. Meigs Juvenile Campus in Alabama

That visit was especially meaningful - getting to see our curriculum in action, connecting directly with students, and reminding them that they are seen, supported, and deserving of access to valuable financial education 💡

Every connection made this month reinforces why this work matters. And we’re just getting started! We’re excited to continue expanding justice-informed financial literacy education in correctional facilities, nonprofits, and reentry programs, because access to financial knowledge is a critical part of building stability and opportunity after incarceration.

As we close out the month, we wanted to leave you with one reminder about how we define justice-informed financial literacy:

🎉 Congratulations to our workbook winners!

April is a busy (and inspiring!) month for us. We've had the opportunity to attend THREE national conferences: the National Conference on Higher Education in Prison (NCHEP), the National Returning Citizens Conference (NRCC), and the National Association of Reentry Professionals (NARP) Conference 🙌🏽

At each conference, we gifted one Financial Literacy 102: A Financial Guide Before Reentry Student Workbook. Seeing the joy on our winners’ faces reminded us exactly why we do this work 💚 There’s nothing better than sharing resources that empower, uplift, and support second chances with reentry professionals and with returning citizens. We’re so grateful for every connection made, and every smile shared along the way 😊
