This Memorial Day, my heart is filled with deep gratitude and reflection.
Military service has touched my life in such a personal way and I am incredibly grateful that the service members in my family, including both of my brothers, my paternal and maternal grandfathers, and extended family members, all made it home. That is a blessing I do not take lightly.
But my heart aches deeply for the families who did not get that same homecoming. For the empty chairs, the folded flags, the names now spoken with both pride and sorrow, and the loved ones who carry that loss every single day.
Military sacrifice goes far beyond the ultimate loss of life. It is time away from family, missed milestones, physical and emotional tolls, dedication, discipline, and a willingness to serve something greater than oneself. May we never take our freedom for granted, and may we always recognize the weight of the sacrifice that made it possible.
I have known so many who have worn all patterns of the uniform, and I am grateful for each of them all the same. Today, we remember those who gave everything, honor the families who bear that sacrifice, and hold deep appreciation for all who have served.
