Happy Valentine's Day!
Lately, I have been hearing many questions about retirement:
- Do I have enough saved?
- How much is enough?
- Do you agree with Susie Orman?
- Is a million dollars enough? Do I even need that much?
- Should I pay off debt instead of saving more?
- When can I start making withdrawals?
Okay, you get the point. You all have a lot of questions about retirement. And, you may groan when you hear my answer but here it is:
It depends.
See, I told you. You groaned.
Here's the thing: everyone's situation is different, and that is why planning is so important -- and not just before retirement, but also during retirement. Budgeting or getting a ballpark figure for cashflow and spending will help you TREMENDOUSLY.
I have clients well into retirement who meet with me regularly so we can adjust investments and keep everything healthy, so they can keep paying themselves a salary.
Wait what? That's right.
You are going to be your own boss and pay yourself a salary. It is called a distribution. You pay you. This might be new to you, if you aren't doing this already. So think about how much you want to get paid? Hmmm...okay, then, keep reading.
Saving and investing every month in your retirement (and I am going to say it again) will help you TREMENDOUSLY.
Why? Because of Dollar Cost Averaging -- or in plain speak: paying less for more shares because the cost averages out over time.
So, if you are reading this and want to learn more about Financial Planning, send me an email at [email protected]. If you want to set up a time to meet, call me at 707-208-5037. Zoom, phone, or if in N. Cali, in-person works too. You may also text the branch at 707-297-9741.
Again, Happy Valentine's Day! Go be sweet to someone.
