Not everything is yours to carry.
For anyone going through a major life transition like divorce, it's important to remember there is a difference between compassion and responsibility.
You can care about someone's feelings . . . without becoming responsible for them.
You can understand someone's frustration . . . without accepting blame for it.
You can acknowledge someone's emotions . . . without carrying them yourself.
These pumpkins belong in the patch . . . and some of the burdens you're carrying may belong exactly where they are, too.
If you are in the midst of divorce, ask yourself: "What am I carrying that isn't actually mine?"
Sometimes that question alone creates room to breathe.
