Internal Controls Help Protect Your Organization, and Your Team
If you search "church embezzlement" online, you'll see how common this is. It’s heartbreaking because these stories don't just financially ruin a church, but they also hurt the mission and reputation of the Church.
Most leaders I talk to rely on the fact that they trust their team completely. I always want to assume the best of the people I work with too, but I’ve found that formal internal controls are actually a kindness to staff and volunteers.
When you have clear checks and balances, you are protecting your people from even the hint of an accusation. If only one person handles the money and a number doesn't add up, that person is automatically in the crosshairs.
