American Public Works Association: Young Professionals Committee We would like to blend or modify existing APWA events to include a YPC component.

A group of young people within the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association, generally ages 21-35, interesting in furthering careers and networking. We have expressed our goals at the first committee meeting, included but not limited to: engaging one another in current events within the municipal sector, with topics that cross from engineering to accounting to roadway maintenan

ce, staying communicative to prevent everyone from "reinventing the wheel"... we would like to keep our activities engaging and interesting, and work to become self-governing over the next 6-12 months as well.

A new update for all young professionals per Don Hartman, Jr. J.D., LL.M re: learning opportunities!

"The NEPWI Institute was created to assist qualified APWA members pursue credentialing for Level 2 Public Works Manager (PWM) in the Donald C. Stone Center of Leadership Excellence (http://www.apwa.net/donald-c-stone). The credentialing process has both non-academic and academic components. The NEPWI was created to satisfy the academic portion of the credentialing process (for more on institutes click on http://www.apwa.net/learn/PW-Institutes). But it can do more than that: it is also an excellent introduction to best practices for management and leadership in public works, even for those who have years of experience or for those not interested in PWM credentialing. It is also an excellent segue for those seeking to move into the public works as a new career."

We are a collection of young people within the public works arena, looking to expand our careers, network, and learn as much as we can. Members include vendors, municipal employees particularly within the public works department(s), partners, and many others. Please support the APWA Young People Committee by inviting friends in the municipal sector and/or spreading the word about our committee! For all current members - please feel free to post ideas re: our next meeting place & time.
