You’ve heard that life insurance is good to have, but maybe you don’t know much more than that. You’re not alone! Read on to get answers to life insurance questions.

What is life insurance?
Life insurance provides your family with money to pay debt, funeral expenses and more if you die. You pay your insurance company a premium. In return, your beneficiaries (the people you select) will get the death benefit when you pass away.

Types of life insurance
• Term life insurance – is coverage for a specific amount of time (10-30 years). If you die during that time, your beneficiaries get the death benefit.
• Permanent life insurance – provides lifetime coverage that builds cash value, like how you build equity in your home.

How does life insurance work?
• For a term policy, select a policy term (10-30 years) and the amount of money you’d like your beneficiaries to get if you die during that time.

• For a permanent policy, if you make the required payments and don’t allow the policy to lapse, you’ll get lifetime coverage. Plus, you can access the policy’s cash value while you’re alive.

Do I need life insurance?
People need life insurance for lots of reasons. Here are the top five:
• Funeral expenses
• Wealth transfer
• Income replacement
• Mortgage pay off
• Retirement income supplement

Life insurance is a vital part of protecting your financial future and it will never be more affordable than it is today.

So, how affordable is life insurance, really?
The truth is, it depends on many factors, like age, health, lifestyle, coverage amount, etc. The good news is that even though the factors influencing your rate may feel extensive, getting life insurance is easier than ever. Life insurance companies use advanced underwriting methods to make the process easy for you.
--
How can I lower my life insurance cost?
There are a variety of life insurance options that can fit your needs and budget. But if you want to try to lower your rate, these steps may help:
✅ Purchase a policy at the youngest age possible. Parents may consider purchasing a policy for children as their premiums are typically much lower than an adult’s.
✅ Live a healthy lifestyle. Individuals who live healthy lifestyles generally have lower premiums than those who don’t, as they tend to live longer and have a better quality of life.
✅ Review your insurance options. Term life insurance is typically less expensive than whole life insurance, since you are only paying for it for a certain amount of time.
--
If you don’t have life insurance or haven’t reviewed your policy in a while, meet with me to discuss what life insurance is best for you right now and how much you can expect to pay for it. You might be surprised to learn that it’s more affordable than you first thought.

Most of us already have car and home insurance, because it’s either required by law or your mortgage lender. But what would happen if you were in some type of accident that costs far more than what your insurance protects?

That’s where additional liability (or Umbrella) insurance can help. Here’s a quick overview on what Umbrella insurance is, how it works, and its average cost.

▪️ What is umbrella insurance? It’s additional liability insurance that picks up where your car or home insurance leaves off. Without this additional coverage, an accident that costs more than your liability limit could leave you paying the rest out of pocket.

▪️ Who needs umbrella insurance? Homeowners with families, high-net-worth individuals and landlords are three key groups who could benefit from the additional coverage.

▪️ Sounds expensive … can I afford Umbrella insurance? For what you spend at your favorite coffee shop each year would be more than enough to get you $1 million in Umbrella insurance (it costs on average about a few hundred dollars per year)

▪️ How do I get Umbrella insurance? Talk to your insurance agent. They’re standing by ready to help.

Home fires can start and escalate quickly in everyday moments. So, here are some fire safety tips you can use to prevent fires.

1.Pay attention in the kitchen
• Turn the burner off before you walk away.
• Turn pot handles toward the back of stove.
• Keep stove clear of oven mitts, towels etc.
--
2. Use a space heater with care
• Leave at least three feet of empty space around the heater.
• Plug the heater into a wall outlet (not an extension cord).
• Ensure heater is approved for indoor use.
--
3. Maintain your furnace
• Ask a heating and cooling specialist to inspect it every year.
• Change furnace filters every three months.
--
4. Check your chimney
• Pay for annual chimney sweeps.
• Dispose of (or vacuum) ashes only after they’ve cooled for at least 48 hours.
--
5. Leave smoke detectors enabled
• If your smoke detector goes off while you’re cooking, don’t turn it off. You might forget to turn it back on.
• Test smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries at least twice a year.
• Pay attention to your wiring very floor, including the basement.
--
6. Pay attention to your wiring
• Don’t overload electrical outlets by reviewing wattage rating and following manufacturer instructions.
• If you blow a fuse, consider it a warning and decrease wattage by plugging that item into a different area.
