🚨 Your QuickBooks says you have $5,000.

Your bank says you have $3,200.

Which one is right?

Believe it or not, I see this all the time.

The culprit is usually a missing bank reconciliation.

A bank reconciliation is simply making sure what your books say happened matches what actually happened in your bank account.

When reconciliations are skipped, you may have:

❌ Missing expenses

❌ Duplicate deposits

❌ Uncleared checks

❌ Incorrect transfers

❌ Bank fees that were never recorded

And before you know it...

⚠️ Your profit is wrong

⚠️ Your cash flow is wrong

⚠️ Your tax return is wrong

The goal of every reconciliation is simple:

✅ Every transaction accounted for

✅ Every deposit matched

✅ Every expense recorded

✅ Difference = $0.00

💬 Be honest: When was the last time you reconciled your business bank account?

A. This month

B. Last quarter

C. Last year

D. I have no idea 😅

🚨 POTENTIAL IRS REFUND OPPORTUNITY: Don't Miss the July 10, 2026 Deadline 🚨

A recent court case may create a refund opportunity for millions of taxpayers who were assessed certain IRS penalties and interest during the COVID-19 federal disaster period (2020–2023).

⚠️ Important: This is NOT an automatic refund.

In many cases, taxpayers may need to file a claim with the IRS by July 10, 2026, to preserve their rights while the issue continues through the courts.

You may want to review your records if you:

✔️ Paid late-filing penalties
✔️ Paid late-payment penalties
✔️ Paid estimated tax penalties
✔️ Paid related IRS interest during the COVID disaster period

The deadline to protect your potential claim is approaching quickly.

💡 Don't assume you don't qualify. A review of your IRS account transcripts may reveal penalties or interest you forgot about years ago.

If you think this may apply to you, now is the time to speak with a qualified tax professional.

👇🏾 Share this post so your friends, family, and fellow business owners don't miss a potential refund opportunity.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day.

A day to remember the heroes who gave everything for this country. ❤️🤍💙

And while honoring service members and their families, here’s a tax tip many reservists never knew:

💡 Certain military reservists traveling more than 100 miles for qualifying duties may be able to deduct unreimbursed mileage, lodging, and meals within IRS rules.

And if those deductions were missed?
👉🏾 Amended returns may still be possible within the IRS timeframe.

A lot of military families miss deductions simply because nobody explained the rules.

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day to the moms doing it all. 🌸

The planners.
The protectors.
The snack makers.
The homework helpers.
The ones balancing work, kids, life… and still making it happen somehow. 💙

And while we’re celebrating moms today, here’s a tax tip many parents don’t know:

👀 If you regularly pay a babysitter or nanny to care for your child in YOUR home… you may have household employer responsibilities.

In some situations, the IRS considers you a household employer, which can mean:
✔️ Payroll tax responsibilities
✔️ Possible W-2 filing requirements
✔️ Household employee reporting rules

🚨 California LLC owners… this is the post you need to read BEFORE another $800 bill shows up. 👀

A lot of people create LLCs during their “I’m starting a business” era…

Then life happens.
The idea slows down.
The business never launches.

And they just… forget about the LLC.

Big mistake.

⚠️ In California, an LLC can still owe the annual franchise tax fee ($800 per year) EVEN IF:
✔️ You made no money
✔️ You never opened the business
✔️ You never took clients
✔️ You “weren’t really using it”

If the LLC is still active with the state?

👉🏾 California may still consider that entity subject to annual franchise tax requirements.

And those charges can stack up FAST with:
• Penalties
• Interest
• Collection notices

I’ve seen people shocked to learn they owe THOUSANDS over an LLC they thought disappeared years ago.

💡 If you know you are no longer operating the business, don’t just walk away from it.

Properly dissolve/cancel the entity so it stops creating ongoing obligations.

Ignoring it does NOT make it disappear.

📌 Save this.
📌 Share this with somebody who started an LLC and “forgot about it.”
📌 Especially your entrepreneur friends in California.

As many of you know, I serve as the CFO for a mental health children’s nonprofit facility, and I specialize in helping mid-sized nonprofits stay financially sound and grant compliant. One thing I always make clear is this....FEDERAL grant money is NOT “extra money.” It is restricted, closely monitored, and must be documented down to the dollar.

I have these conversations internally all the time, so I’m going to bring y’all into the room with me.

When we receive federal funding, I’m not asking:
“Do we have the money?”

I’m asking:
👉🏾 Can we justify this under the grant?
👉🏾 Can we prove it belongs here?
👉🏾 Would this hold up in an audit?

Because under 2 CFR Part 200, every cost has to meet specific standards to be allowable:

✔️ Necessary – It directly supports the purpose of the program
✔️ Reasonable – The cost makes sense
✔️ Allocable – It clearly belongs to that specific grant

If even one of these is missing, that cost can be questioned or disallowed.

Real examples I deal with:

✔️ ALLOWABLE:
🕐A therapist’s salary split based on actual time spent with grant-funded children
🧸Program supplies used specifically for therapy sessions or services outlined in the grant
🖋️Training for staff only if it directly supports the grant program
🚗Mileage or travel tied to delivering services (home visits, program sites)

❌ Where organizations get in trouble:
🚩Charging 100% of a salary to one grant when that employee works across multiple programs
🔃Moving expenses around at the end of the year to “clean up” budgets
🛑Using leftover funds for items that were never part of the approved scope
💰Charging administrative costs without a clear allocation method
📜Missing documentation....no time tracking, no receipts, no justification

Getting funded is just step one.
Protecting that funding is where real leadership shows up.

Most people focus on “How do I save on taxes today?”

Smart taxpayers ask:
👉🏾 “How do I avoid taxes later… legally?”

That’s what a Roth IRA does.

A Roth IRA is one of the simplest ways to build tax-free income later.

✔️ You pay taxes now
✔️ Your money grows tax-free
✔️ You can withdraw it tax-free in retirement

💡 Example:
Save $6,500 a year starting at 30

👉🏾 Total invested: $195,000
👉🏾 At ~7% growth: ~$600,000+

That extra ~$400,000?
You keep it, NO taxes owed.

⚠️ Keep in mind:
• No tax break today
• Income limits apply
• Must follow withdrawal rules

New IRS warning 🚨 AI scams are getting smarter

The IRS is warning taxpayers about AI-driven scams.

Know this:

✔️ IRS contacts you by mail first
✔️ They don’t call, text, or email out of the blue
✔️ They don’t ask for gift cards, crypto, or instant payments

⚠️ If it feels urgent, threatening, or too real… it’s likely a scam.

Verify everything directly through IRS.gov.

🚨 TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO FILE TAXES 🚨
Send this to someone who still hasn’t filed.

Here’s what you need to know TODAY:

✔️ You can still file your return
✔️ You can file an extension in minutes
✔️ You should estimate and pay if you owe

❌ What you should NOT do:
Ignore it.

⚠️ Why?

Because the IRS charges:
• Penalties for not filing
• Penalties for not paying
• Interest on top of both

💡 Even if you can’t pay everything:
File anyway. It reduces the bigger penalty.

This is your reminder.
Handle it today… or pay for it later.
