The market selloff in March and subsequent recovery in April provides a recent reminder that attempts to time markets are rarely additive to long‑term portfolio outcomes. Episodes such as the COVID‑19 sell‑off in 2020 and the April, 2025 tariff‑driven drawdown illustrate that market dislocations are inherently unpredictable – both in their cause and in their speed of recovery. For long‑term investors focused on achieving durable, objective‑based outcomes, abandoning a strategic plan in response to short‑term market stress is unlikely to capture value or meaningfully avoid losses.
