You must report the advance child tax credits if received last year.

You should receive form Child Tax Credit (CTC) Payments – letter 6419 or 6475 EIP3 letter from the IRS.
_______

The IRS letter 6419 is the official documentation that has the details to be reported for a taxpayers’ advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments and will provide:

• Total amount of advance CTC payments received for 2021; information goes on Schedule 8812, line 14f or 15e as applicable

• Number of qualifying children counted in determining the advance CTC

Failure to use the amounts referenced in the IRS Letter 6419 on their return could trigger a manual review of the return and in turn can delay the refund by 6-8 weeks.

Keep in mind, anyone that received at least one Child Tax Credit payment from July to December 2021 will receive the letter 6419. If they received at least one payment (even if they opted-out), they should still receive a letter.

If taxpayers cannot provide the IRS letter 6419 but did receive any advance CTC payments

There is an IRS Child Tax Credit portal with an ID.me account to verify the details from the letter.

• They’ll create a new ID.me account by going to: https://lnkd.in/dCDeNr2U

• Click Manage Advance Payments

• Click ID.me Create New Account

• Instructions are provided to set up the ID.me account (if they don’t have one already set up)

Additional information may be requested including, a live video of the taxpayer and/or uploading photo identification.

Economic Impact Payments (EIP) – letter 6475

The IRS letter 6475 is the official documentation that contains the total amount of the third Economic Impact Payment (EIP 3) and any Plus-UP Payments received.

Taxpayers who didn’t qualify for EIP 3 or did not receive the full amount may be eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) based on their 2021 tax information. They’ll need to file a 2021 tax return, even if they don’t usually file, to claim the credit.

The 6475 letter should provide this information to calculate the correct 2021 RRC amount when they file their tax return. Failure to use the correct payment amounts could create delays in processing their refund and the ability for you to be paid your fees in a timely fashion.

If taxpayers cannot provide the IRS letter 6475

Taxpayers can log into their IRS.gov Online Account to securely access their EIP Payment amounts.

You’re welcome ✌🏾

Breaking News:
Hold onto your wigs, we’ve got another update.

In a surprise reversal, the IRS has decided to process the stimulus payments that were returned by the refund transfer banks.

This means that taxpayers will not be waiting to receive their stimulus payment in the refund, rather they should expect it from the IRS directly by no later than February 1.

If they received a direct deposit as a disbursement type from the refund transfer, the banks will be reporting that direct deposit information back to the IRS so those folks should still receive a direct deposit. Checks will be issued to anyone who received a check or prepaid card disbursement.

I know this creates a lot more questions than answers, but as we get more information I will be sure to keep everyone updated.
