⚠️ New IRS Scam Alert: Don’t Fall for This
Taxpayers are receiving notices that appear to be from the Internal Revenue Service requesting bank account information to process refunds, but some of these are fraudulent scams.
While legitimate IRS Notice CP53E may request updated banking info in certain cases, scammers are taking advantage of confusion to steal sensitive data.
🚩 Watch for red flags:
* Requests to submit info through non-IRS websites
* QR codes linking to unknown pages
* Instructions to respond via email or text
* Requests for payment via gift cards
The IRS does NOT initiate contact via email, text, or social media asking for personal or financial information.
✅ What to do:
* Verify any notice through your IRS online account
* Go directly to IRS.gov; don’t click links
* When in doubt, contact a trusted tax professional
