I thought I had missed the moment.

We made the trip to see Mount Fuji. We planned the journey, watched the weather forecast, travelled the distance with anticipationโ€ฆ only to be met with rain and clouds ๐Ÿฅน
No clear view.
No postcard moment.
Just disappointment quietly sitting in the heart.

Sometimes life feels like that too.
We prepare.
We plan carefully.
We do our best to reach something meaningful.
Yet when we finally arrive, the view we hoped for is hidden.

And if we are not careful, we may think:
โ€œMaybe it just wasnโ€™t meant for me.โ€

But on the flight back, somewhere high above the clouds, there it was.

Mt Fuji

Quiet. Majestic. Unobstructed.
Not from the ground where I was searching so hard for it,
but from the sky.

And perhaps that itself was the lesson.

There are things in life we cannot fully see when we are standing too close to them. Too caught up in the noise.
Too limited by disappointment, emotions, timing, or expectations.

Sometimes we need a higher plane of thought.

A higher perspective allows us to realise that the mountain was always there. The beauty never disappeared. Only our view was blocked.

Life has a way of teaching us that delays are not always denials. What we fail to see today may appear more beautifully tomorrow, in a way we never expected.

And often, the view becomes even more meaningful because we had to wait for it.

There is also something humbling about seeing Mt Fuji from above the clouds.
It reminds me that some of lifeโ€™s greatest moments are not found by forcing outcomes, but by trusting the journey enough to stay open.

Godโ€™s plans may not always align with our timeline, but sometimes they unfold with a wisdom far greater than our own understanding.

Perhaps that is why growth requires elevation and patience.

When we rise above fear, above frustration, above the need to control every outcome, we begin to see life differently and beautifully.

Clearer.
Wiser.
Calmer.

And the beauty before us becomes just as majestic, if not more.

Maybe the real blessing was never simply seeing Mt Fuji.
It was learning that some things are only visible when we are willing to rise higher mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

One of the more interesting things this profession has taught me is this:
Money rarely changes people completely.
More often, it amplifies who they already are.

When someone is fearful, more money may amplify anxiety.
When someone lacks clarity, more opportunities may create even more confusion.
When someone is impulsive, more resources can sometimes magnify poor decisions rather than solve them.
And when someone is grounded, thoughtful, and disciplined, money often becomes a tool that allows them to create stability, generosity, and long-term peace.

Over time, Iโ€™ve realised that family wealth planning is not simply about growing wealth. It is also about understanding behaviour. Because financial decisions are rarely just mathematical.

They are emotional. Psychological. Personal.
Two people can earn the same income, have access to the same opportunities, and still experience completely different outcomes in life. Not because of intelligence alone, but because of how they think, respond, and behave over time.

You begin to notice how fear affects decision-making.
How comparison creates pressure.
How upbringing shapes money habits.
How unresolved emotions sometimes appear in financial choices.

To me, this profession is about helping people make decisions that are aligned with the life they truly want to build.

And the more I do this work, the more I believe the right people in this profession are not just technically capable. They are emotionally aware.

Because in the end, money often amplifies who we already are. Which is why personal growth and financial growth are often more connected than people realise.

I remember learning about a financial planning case study during my poly days about what happened in 2003;
when the Financial Guardian policies didnโ€™t turn out the way many expected.

The idea of a โ€œcritical yearโ€ felt reassuring.
Pay for a number of yearsโ€ฆ and one day, the policy takes care of itself. It gave people a sense of certainty. A sense that things were โ€œtaken care of.โ€ Until reality changed.

When market conditions shifted, the projections shifted too. The โ€œcritical yearโ€ moved. Premiums had to continue.
And for many, it wasnโ€™t just about the numbers.
It was the feeling of:

That moment has stayed with me.
Not because of the product itself, but because of what it revealed about our industry. That sometimes, what is ๐‘ข๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘‘ is not always what was ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘‘.

Today, when I sit down with investors, I carry this reminder with me as a form of responsibility.

Because every plan we put in place is built on assumptions:
โ€ข Elements that are subject to change
โ€ข Timeframes that may move with circumstances
โ€ข Life journeys that may take a different course

So Iโ€™ve learned to slow down certain conversations.
To ask and understand more deliberately:

๐Ÿ‘‰ What here is certain?
๐Ÿ‘‰ What here may change over time?
๐Ÿ‘‰ What are we assuming today?
๐Ÿ‘‰ What might shift along the way?
๐Ÿ‘‰ And how will this hold up when life changes?

Over time, Iโ€™ve come to realise this:
Investors donโ€™t just need a โ€œgood plan.โ€ They need a plan they can ๐’–๐’๐’…๐’†๐’“๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’๐’…, ๐’•๐’“๐’–๐’”๐’•, and ๐’๐’Š๐’—๐’† with, even when life changes.

Family wealth planning is not about predicting the future perfectly. It is about preparing for different possibilities with ๐’„๐’๐’‚๐’“๐’Š๐’•๐’š, ๐’‰๐’๐’๐’†๐’”๐’•๐’š, and ๐’„๐’‚๐’“๐’†.

And maybe thatโ€™s what people truly value in the long run.
Not just returns, but ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’”๐’”๐’–๐’“๐’‚๐’๐’„๐’†.
Not just growth, but ๐’‘๐’†๐’‚๐’„๐’† ๐’๐’‡ ๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’….

Some of the most valuable lessons in this Family Wealth profession donโ€™t come from financial concepts. They come from observing people.
โ–ช๏ธHow they make decisions under pressure.
โ–ช๏ธWhat they prioritise when faced with trade-offs.
โ–ช๏ธWhat they say they want vs. what they consistently choose instead.

Over time, Iโ€™ve realised that financial planning is rarely about numbers alone. It is often about fear.
Fear of not having enough.
Fear of making the wrong decision.
Fear of disappointing the people we love.

Sometimes it is about guilt.
Supporting family beyond what is sustainable,
saying yes when boundaries are needed,
or carrying responsibilities that were never clearly spoken, but deeply felt.

Sometimes it is about identity.
Wanting to appear successful, upgrading lifestyles too quickly or making decisions based on comparison rather than clarity.

And often, what people need most is to ask themselves honestly:
โ€œWhat am I really trying to protect?โ€
โ€œWhat am I afraid of losing?โ€
โ€œIs this decision aligned with what truly matters to me?โ€

Iโ€™ve learned that good family wealth planning is not just helping people manage money.
Because clarity in finances often begins with clarity in values. And when those two align, decisions become lighter, peace becomes clearer, and confidence becomes quieter and stronger.

Perhaps the deeper purpose of this profession is not only to grow wealth, but helping people build a free hold life which they can feel at peace living.

Meaningful work often attracts like-minded people.
If this resonates, Iโ€™m always open to connecting.

There are moments in this profession where doing the right thing doesnโ€™t always look like doing the obvious thing. Not because itโ€™s complicated, but because the right decision doesnโ€™t always benefit immediately.

I remember an investor who came in wanting to invest a significant lump sum. On the surface, it seemed straightforward. But after walking through a proper financial planning process, it became clear that what he needed first wasnโ€™t an investment strategy; it was stronger emergency reserves, especially with family medical responsibilities to consider.
Advising him to hold back wasnโ€™t the fastest path forward, but it was ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐จ๐ง๐ž.

Another investor wanted to upgrade to a bigger home because โ€œeveryone around them was doing it.โ€
But after reviewing their finances, the real question wasnโ€™t can they afford it? It was what would they be sacrificing quietly for it?
Sometimes financial planning is helping people separate desire from pressure.
Not every next step is the right step.
Sometimes wisdom is choosing ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž.

Some investors earn very well, but have almost no real financial resilience.
High income can create the illusion of security.
But true security is not income alone. It is protection, reserves, structure, and peace of mind.
Sometimes the hardest truth to hear is:
โ€œYou are doing well, but you are not yet financially safe.โ€
๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ.

There are also times when the best advice is actually:
โ€œYou do not need another policy.โ€
Because financial planning is not about accumulation. It is about suitability.
Sometimes confidence comes not from buying more, but from understanding that what you already have is enough.
That ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž is also part of the work.

These moments are rarely visible.
But over time, they shape the kind of trust I build, and the kind of professional i am becoming.

In life, many things can be learned through books, training, and qualifications.
But the ability to truly care, to sense what is unspoken, to understand what someone is worried about before they fully express it, and to hold responsibility for another personโ€™s future with sincerity, that comes from ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ and ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ฆ.

Certifications may open doors, but trust is built through human understanding. And perhaps that is the real work. Not just becoming better at what we do, but becoming better in how we live ๐ŸŒฑ

Over the years, Iโ€™ve come to see that not all careers are experienced in the same way.

Some are built around tasks and transactions.
Others are shaped by people, conversations, and the responsibility that comes with them.
Family Wealth planning, to me, has slowly become the latter.

The work often goes beyond numbers.
It touches on how people think about their future,
what they prioritise, and the kind of life they are trying to build.

Recently, I came across a thought that stayed with me:

It made me pause.
Because there was a time I thought growth = more.

But over time, my perspective shifted.
I began to see that the real growth is about the inner work. It is in becoming more patient, more thoughtful in conversations, and more aware of the responsibility I carry in the work that I do.

The work didnโ€™t just shape my career.
It shaped who I am becoming.
Somewhere along the way,
it stops feeling like just a career.
It begins to feel like meaningful work.

If you find yourself reflecting on similar things, Iโ€™m always open to a conversation.

From time to time, I get asked what I look for in someone entering this profession. And the more I reflect on it, the less it has to do with qualifications or prior experience.

What seems to matter more are the quieter qualities.
How a person thinks.
How they treat others.
Whether they take the time to understand before offering an opinion.
Whether they recognise the weight behind the decisions people are making.
And whether they are able to stay consistent, even when progress feels slow or unseen.

Skills can be developed over time.
But mindset and character shape the kind of Family Wealth Consultant someone eventually becomes.

And in this work, that difference matters more than most people realise.

Perhaps the right people will recognise this, and find their way into the conversation.

One thing this family wealth planning profession has taught me over the years is that financial planning is not just about money.

Itโ€™s about self and people.
And working with people has a quiet way of shaping who I become.

I learn patience when people and things are uncertain,
when decisions take longer than expected, and when clarity doesnโ€™t come immediately.

I learn humility when I realise I donโ€™t have every answer, and that sometimes, the most important thing I can do is to pause, listen, and think carefully.

I learn responsibility when people trust me with decisions that affect their future, their families, their security, and the life they are trying to build.

Over time, I begin to see that every conversation carries weight. Not just in what is said, but in how it is said, and how it is received.

And somewhere along the way, the work stops being just about solutions.
It becomes about understanding.
About holding space for people to think clearly. About guiding without pressure.

Over the years, Iโ€™ve come to see that this profession doesnโ€™t just grow my career.
It grows my patience.
My awareness.
And my sense of responsibility towards self and others.

Financial planning, when done well, is as much a journey of ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ growth as it is a ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ one.

One misconception about this family wealth planning profession is that you have to be loud to succeed.

In my observation, the advisors who make the greatest impact are often the ones who speak less, listen more, and think carefully before offering guidance.

Clients rarely remember the most persuasive person in the room. They remember the one who helped them feel understood.

Quiet confidence doesnโ€™t demand attention.
It earns trust over time.

The best advisors are not the loudest voices in the room.
