$70,000 for one child.
As a father, of course this sounds like good news.
But when you look deeper into why Singapore is putting so much support into encouraging families to have children, the numbers become quite eye-opening.
Our fertility rate is around 0.87.
And if that trend continues, it doesn’t just affect population growth.
It affects our workforce, spending, ageing population… and eventually, housing demand too.
But here’s the interesting part:
Fewer people in future doesn’t automatically mean property prices must fall.
Because sometimes, it’s not about how many buyers there are.
It’s about how many good choices those buyers actually have.
So the next time you see another record transaction…
Don’t just ask why someone paid so much.
Ask how many other choices that buyer actually had.
Just something interesting I wanted to share.
