Husband and Wife Convicted for Multiple Tax Evasions

Lim Meng Fatt and Gan Bee Bee, both aged 53, have been convicted by the Court today for Income Tax and Goods & Services Tax (GST) evasion, as well as fraudulently de-registering their company Wan Lin Healthcare Centre Pte Ltd (“Wan Lin”) from GST when in fact the company was still liable to be GST-registered. Gan Bee Bee was also convicted of abetting Wan Lin to make a false PIC claim.

Lim Meng Fatt was sentenced by the Court to 12 months' and 16 weeks' imprisonment and $1,163,668 in penalties. Gan Bee Bee was sentenced by the Court to 16 months' and 17 weeks' imprisonment and $1,175,818 in penalties.

Are you selling products or providing services online for a profit? The income earned is taxable, even if it’s only on a part-time basis.

You need to e-file a tax return by 18 April if your total annual net trade income exceeded $6,000 (or your total annual taxable income exceeded $22,000) last year. The income earned from your online activities should be reported under "Trade, Business, Profession or Vocation" in your individual income tax form.
