Freelancer! Before you say that rent money has gone forever, there's something you really need to know.

And no, we're not talking about negotiating with your landlord.

Ada is a freelance social media manager and she just paid ₦1.2M as rent for the year. Money gone from her account. Landlord happy. 😂

Now she's already thinking about how she'll hustle for the next rent.

But there's something she may not know about the rent she just paid.

The Nigeria Tax Act 2025, has made provision for everyone that pays rent. Stating that an individual may claim rent relief of 20% of the annual rent paid, subject to a maximum of ₦500k provided the necessary requirements of the Act are met.

So, if Ada paid ₦1.2M in annual rent, 20% would be ₦240k. So she can claim that relief when calculating her taxes.

You see that house rent receipt? Keep it safe like everything depends on it.

Because you also need to accurately declare the rent you actually paid and provide the required information when claiming the relief.

What we’re trying to say is that as a tax paying citizen of Nigeria, don’t overlook tax reliefs you're eligible to claim.

At Taxidy, we make tax compliance easier to understand, so you know what you're responsible for and can stay compliant without unnecessary stress or wahala with the tax authorities.

Imagine losing a tax deduction over a missing receipt.😩

You spent the money, and you know you did. But now you can't find the receipt or invoice.

And that's where the wahala starts.

The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 allows you to claim deductions for expenses you incur to earn your freelance income, as long as they meet the requirements of the Act

But you'll need documentary evidence to support your deduction.
If you can't provide the required evidence, your deduction could be refused.

So....that ₦150k you spent on something you genuinely needed for work? Don't just remember it. Make sure you keep the proof.

You honestly don't want to be searching through your WhatsApp, email or bank statement six months later shouting, "Where is this receipt sef?"

That's why we built Taxidy, to help make tax compliance easier, so you can understand what you're responsible for and stay compliant without the stress.

Follow Taxidy and turn on post notifications for more simple tax tips to clear up your tax confusion.

And send this to that freelancer friend of yours who never keeps receipts.

You might be paying your taxes and still be owing tax.👀

Shocking, right?

Here's why this can happen.

Meet Emeka.

Emeka thought he had everything sorted. Every month, his employer deducted PAYE from his salary, so as far as he was concerned, tax was already handled.

Then he started getting freelance gigs as a video editor.

₦150k here. ₦300k there. Before long, his side hustle was bringing in a decent amount of money.

But here’s the part many people miss, and so did Emeka: PAYE deducted from your salary doesn't automatically cover income you earn from your freelance work.

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, an individual's income can include income from employment as well as income from a trade, business, profession or vocation.

So if you have a 9-to-5 and you freelance on the side, don't assume your employer's PAYE covers everything you earn.

Your salary and your freelance income are separate sources of income that you need to account for.

Don't wait until tax season before you start asking questions.

Taxidy is here to make tax compliance easier to understand, so you know what you're responsible for and can stay compliant without the stress.

Business owners, that alert that just dropped in your personal account. Is it your salary or your business income?

If you cannot tell the difference, NRS will have a hard time too.

A lot of business owners mix their personal and business finances without realising how much it's costing them at tax time.

When everything goes into one account, your actual business profit becomes almost impossible to determine. And when you cannot clearly show what your business made, you end up estimating. And estimates almost always mean that you'll overpay.

Here's what the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 makes clear. Your business income and your personal income are treated differently. Mixing them does not just create confusion. It creates a situation where you cannot clearly defend what you owe.

Keeping your personal and business finances separate is not just smart. It's one of the most practical ways to protect yourself from overpaying your taxes.

Open a separate business account. Ensure all business income and expenses goes through it. Because at tax time, clarity is money.

That's exactly why we built Taxidy. To help you understand your actual tax position as a business owner so you're never paying for confusion that could have been avoided.

Business owners, NRS doesn't care if you have a sharp memory. 👀

Because when it comes to your tax records, memory doesn't count as evidence.

Meet Emeka. He had the same confidence.

He runs a small business. No spreadsheet, no invoice records, no expense tracker. Nothing. Just his memory and a WhatsApp chat he scrolls through when he needs to remember something.

It worked fine. Until tax season came.

When NRS came knocking and asked him to show proof of his income and expenses, he had nothing concrete to show them. No records or receipts. Just vibes.

And here's what the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 says about situations like Emeka's.

Whenever there are not enough records of your business operations, the tax authority has the power to estimate your business income themselves. And trust us, their estimate will not be in your favour.

That means instead of being taxed on what you actually earned, NRS gets to decide what they think you earned. And you'll be paying tax on that whether it's accurate or not.

Emeka didn't see that coming.

And I bet you didn't either.

Proper record-keeping is not just good business practice. It's your protection against being taxed on income you never even made.

Keep your invoices. Track your expenses. Record every transaction. Because when NRS comes asking, your records are your only defence.

That's why we built taxidy, to help you stay on top of your business records so you're always filing accurately and never leaving yourself open to estimates that could cost you more than you bargained for.

Know what you owe. Pay what you owe.

Is your phone your office? Then this post is for you. 👇

Many online business owners are making one very costly assumption.

Maybe you run a business on Instagram, sell products through WhatsApp, or you offer services entirely online.

And somewhere along the line, you assumed that because your business doesn't have a physical location, you're not on NRS' radar.

That's not true.

The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 formally recognises digital and online businesses as part of Nigeria's economy. Whether you're selling digital products on Instagram, running a digital agency, or offering any form of online service, your business is treated exactly the same way as any traditional business when it comes to taxes.

Which basically means that you have the same obligations.
You have to keep proper records and file your tax returns.

Many online business owners do not realise this until they are already in trouble with the tax authorities.

Honestly, getting it right from the start saves you from unnecessary penalties and keeps your business running smoothly.

Taxidy helps you understand your tax responsibilities as an online business owner so you can stay compliant without the confusion.

Business owners, not all debt is bad, especially when it comes to your taxes.

Having debts can feel like a burden as a business owner. We truly understand.
You probably took a loan to keep your business running. Maybe it was to buy equipment, restock inventory, or cover operational costs during a slow business season.

And now, on top of repaying that loan, you are worried about how much tax you are going to have to pay.

Well....

The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 has something to say that will be a huge relief for you.

That interest you are paying on your business loan? It's deductible.

According to the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, any interest paid on a loan that was used to generate income for your business can be deducted from your taxable profit.

So if your business made a profit of ₦5M this year and you paid ₦500k in loan interest, you're not paying tax on ₦5M, rather you're paying tax on ₦4.5M.

That's real money you get back in your pocket.

But it's important to know that the loan must be used for genuine business purposes. Using a business loan for personal expenses and then trying to claim the interest as a deduction does not qualify.

Maybe you're wondering how the tax authorities will know? Well... you'll have to prove it, so be honest to avoid issues with the authorities.

Many Nigerian business owners may be overpaying their taxes simply because they do not know what they can legally deduct, and this is one of them.

Save this post. You'll need it.

At Taxidy, we help you identify every legitimate deduction available to your business so you're never paying more than you should.

Business owners, think paying salaries is where your responsibility ends? Think again.

Hiring employees comes with more than just paying salaries.

Once you become an employer, you also have PAYE responsibilities. This means you're required to deduct PAYE from your employees' salaries where applicable and remit it to the tax authorities.

Many business owners don't realize this until they're trying to sort out payroll records or respond to questions from the tax authority.

Getting it right from the start helps you stay compliant and avoid unnecessary penalties.

Taxidy helps you understand your tax responsibilities, so you can stay compliant without any confusion.
