The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) has clarified that Health Screening Management Services are now subject to Service Tax effective 1 May 2026.

Businesses under this category must:
✔️ Register for SST before 30 April 2026
✔️ Start charging service tax from 1 May 2026

A retrospective exemption is also granted from 1 Sept 2018 – 30 Apr 2026.

However:
⚠️ Any tax already collected must still be remitted to JKDM
❌ No refund allowed for tax already paid

Businesses involved should review their SST registration, billing systems, and past transactions to ensure compliance.

🚗 Taxpayer Alert: Do You Need to Declare Company Car Benefits (BIK)?

If your employer provides you with a company car for personal use, this may be considered a Benefit-In-Kind (BIK) and could be taxable under your employment income.

According to the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), BIK refers to non-cash benefits provided by employers, such as company cars, which must be reported as part of an employee’s taxable income.

📌 Key things to know:

✔ BIK is a non-cash benefit provided by an employer (e.g., company car).

✔ It can be calculated using Formula Method or Prescribed Value Method (most commonly used).

✔ The value will usually be reported by the employer in EA Form – Section C (Allowances / Perquisites / Benefits-in-Kind).

✔ It is also included in PCB / MTD monthly tax deduction calculations.

✔ When filing your personal tax return (e.g., e-BE Form), the BIK amount will be included under Employment Income → Perquisites / Benefits-in-Kind.

⚠️ Tip: In most cases, employees do not need to calculate this themselves as the employer has already reported it in the EA Form.

🚨 SOCSO Update 2026: Now Covers Non-Workplace Injuries

The Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Act 2026 (Act A1788) has been gazetted on 5 March 2026.

📌 Key update:
Employees may now be eligible for SOCSO benefits even for accidents not related to work (subject to conditions).

Other highlights:
✔ SOCSO contributions will also cover non-employment injury protection
✔ New contribution rates will be implemented in phases
✔ Employees with multiple employers must choose one employer for contribution purposes
✔ Certain exclusions apply (e.g., accidents outside Malaysia, criminal acts)

The changes affect employers, HR teams, and payroll compliance under the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO / PERKESO).

🟢 Good News! Tax Refunds Are Now Being Credited Starting Today!

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has begun crediting tax refunds for YA 2025 in stages starting the second week of March 2026.

If you submitted your tax return via e-Filing, refunds may be processed within 30 working days (manual submissions up to 90 working days). If your details are complete and accurate, you may receive your refund even earlier.
