The implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive in Hungary will likely be delayed due to the recent governmental transition – but businesses should still prepare.

The directive, originally scheduled to take effect across the EU by June 7, 2026, introduces several important obligations for employers, including:

• stricter gender pay gap reporting
• transparent salary ranges in recruitment
• clearer career progression and compensation frameworks
• revised approaches to salary confidentiality

While Hungary’s new legislation is expected to arrive later than planned, the direction is already clear. Companies that begin reviewing their HR and payroll practices now will be better positioned once the regulations enter into force.

For many businesses, this is also an opportunity to improve transparency, employee satisfaction, and long-term retention.

At Helpers Finance, we support international businesses in Hungary with payroll, HR compliance, and accounting solutions tailored to local regulations.

Forced liquidation doesn’t happen overnight – it’s the final step of a long process triggered by non-compliance. You might have missed a monthly report or your Hungarian bank account has been blocked, reasons can vary. But here’s the key takeaway many business owners overlook: it can often be stopped.

The difference? Acting early – and having the right support, especailly if you run a company in a foreign country.

This is where professional help is invaluable.
✔️ Business support teams monitor official communication and flag risks before they become critical
✔️ Accountants ensure your reports are submitted correctly and on time
✔️ Legal experts help you navigate court procedures if things escalate

When your company receives notices, deadlines start ticking. Missing them can lead to tax number cancellation and eventually forced liquidation – but with the right support system, you can restore compliance and reverse the process.

Strong operational support isn’t just a “nice to have” – it’s what keeps your business safe, compliant, and running. Reach out to Helpers Finance to stay on the right track.

Ever wondered why the U.S. uses sales tax while Europe relies on VAT?

Understanding the difference between sales tax and VAT is essential for anyone doing business across the U.S. and the EU. While both are consumption-based taxes, they work very differently in practice.

In the U.S., sales tax is collected only at the final point of sale, which can lead to complications in the supply chain if sellers cannot prove that their buyers are not end users. Sales tax is supposed to be collected and remitted only at the final point of sale, but some studies estimate that up to 40% of the total sales tax revenue comes from taxes levied on B2B transactions.

In the EU, VAT is charged at every stage, but businesses can deduct the VAT they pay – making it economically neutral for B2B transactions.

For companies operating in Hungary, this means they will be charging VAT, tracking it on all invoices, and they will be able to deduct the VAT content of purchases from the VAT they would need to pay based on their sales. Modern accounting tools help, but compliance still requires attention.

If you choose to work with us, Helpers keeps you updated on these rules so you can stay compliant and focus on running your business.

💡 There’s a VAT option in Hungary many small businesses overlook.

VAT is normally paid based on the delivery dates indicated on invoices. For companies dealing with slow-paying clients, this can cause a cash-flow pressure because you have to pay VAT before the money actually arrives. In contrast, cash accounting ("pénzforgalmi elszámolás") allows businesses to pay VAT only after invoices are paid. Sounds good, isn't it?

But there are trade‑offs that you should know and consider before going for it:
• You can deduct VAT on your own purchases only once you pay them.
• Your customers can deduct VAT from your invoices only after they pay – which may affect how they plan their own finances.
• It also requires tracking payment dates more closely.

So while cash accounting can help with liquidity, it’s most useful in sectors where long payment deadlines are the norm.
