After remaining unchanged for many years, HMRC has revised the approved mileage allowance rates for business travel using personal vehicles.
From 6 April 2026, the approved rate for cars and vans increased to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, while the 25p rate above 10,000 miles continues to apply.
This update may affect business owners, directors and employees who use their own vehicles for work related journeys by allowing higher mileage expense claims and improved reimbursement for travel costs.
Important reminders:
• Only qualifying business journeys can be claimed
• Ordinary commuting is generally excluded
• Accurate mileage records should be maintained
