🚗 BUSINESS OWNERS & SELF-EMPLOYED - IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚗
HMRC has increased the approved business mileage allowance rate from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles 🚨
✅ Effective from 6 April 2026
✅ Applies to cars & vans
✅ Mileage over 10,000 miles remains at 25p per mile
This is the first increase in over 15 years and could mean valuable additional tax relief or higher allowable business expenses for many businesses and self-employed workers.
📌 Don’t forget accurate record keeping is essential!
Make sure you keep:
✔️ Date of each journey
✔️ Start and destination locations
✔️ Purpose of the trip
✔️ Number of business miles travelled
✔️ Vehicle details
✔️ Mileage logs or app reports
✔️ Receipts for parking & tolls (where applicable)
Good records = smoother bookkeeping and protection if HMRC ever asks questions.
If you need help updating your mileage claims or bookkeeping processes, now is a good time to review them.
