We are delighted to share that SOLLA Accredited Adviser and Advisory Board Member, Catriona Smith, has written a blog for Scottish Care exploring the complexities of funding care in later life. This is a subject that requires not only an in-depth grasp of the practicalities but also a sensitive appreciation of the emotional journey faced by those in need and their families.

Every SOLLA accredited financial adviser brings considerable experience in supporting older and vulnerable individuals and their loved ones. With specialist expertise in later life financial planning, SOLLA Advisers can help you make the most of your resources and provide peace of mind knowing that you have made the right financial choices to secure your future.

Planning for care isn’t just about money - it’s about peace of mind.

In this Funding Week blog, later‑life financial adviser Catriona Smith explains why understanding care funding matters, and how informed planning can help people feel prepared, supported and in control.

It’s a thoughtful reminder that funding care is an investment in wellbeing, independence and confidence - not just a financial decision.

This week a number of SOLLA advisers are visiting Audley Villages to support their Downsizing Events, alongside SOLLA Affiliate Members who specialise in downsizing, decluttering and moving in later life.

Whilst downsizing can make everyday living easier and more manageable, it can also feel like a significant step. In addition to SOLLA Accredited Advisers who specialise in later life financial advice, SOLLA is proud to have a number of Affiliate Members who are experienced in helping with the practical and emotional challenges that come with house moves and downsizing in later life.

Yesterday SOLLA Accredited Adviser Sally Rollinson FPFS and Affiliate Member Janet Stevens represented SOLLA at Scarcroft Park in Leeds. At the same time, SOLLA Accredited Adviser Harj Gill and Affiliate Member Susan Gregory attended the event at Wycliffe Park in Buckinghamshire. SOLLA representatives are attending the event in Bristol today, and will be events at other Audley Village locations throughout the week.

These events provide an excellent opportunity to receive joined-up support — both financial and practical — when considering a move in later life.

February is Dignity Action Month, with Dignity Action Day on the 1st February.

This is an annual opportunity that aims to ensure people who use care services or who receive support are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives. During the month, health and social care workers are asked to promote dignity in their place of work, and members of the public to promote dignity for people in their communities.

The National Dignity Council also promote the Dignity in Care campaign, and the opportunity to become a Dignity Champion, to advocate for compassionate and respectful care.

We’re delighted to highlight the generosity of our SOLLA Members in Scotland, who came together to support the fantastic festive initiative - Age Scotland's Big Gift Appeal. We are proud to have supported this since 2020.

Thanks to their kindness, 93 Christmas gift bags were donated, each filled with thoughtful essentials and festive treats, many individually wrapped to bring extra joy. The gifts were shared with two inspiring Glasgow-based organisations making a real difference in the lives of those they work with.

A huge well done and thank you to our SOLLA Members in Scotland - your generosity truly reflects the spirit and values of SOLLA. Special thanks to SOLLA Accredited Adviser and Advisory Board Member Catriona Smith for organising, buying, wrapping and delivering each present!
