🤝 Two networking events in one day and plenty of great conversations!

It's been a busy day away from the desk, catching up with familiar faces and meeting new people at both Simply Business Club (SBC) and Synergy Networking Events.

Had a fantastic breakfast at Abbots Barton Hotel with SBC 😋

Every business has its own challenges, ambitions and experiences, and there's always something to learn from the people around you.

Whether it's sharing advice, making introductions or simply having a good conversation over a coffee, these events are about much more than finding new clients.

They're about building relationships and supporting one another.

And it's something I try to carry through into Freed Accountancy.

We might be a modern accounting firm that embraces technology, but personal relationships will always be at the heart of what we do.

A big thank you to everyone at SBC and Synergy for another enjoyable day. Great to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones too!

💷 Limited company directors

Did you know you could receive up to £300 a year in tax-free benefits?

It's one of those smaller tax allowances that can easily get overlooked!

Under HMRC's Trivial Benefits rules, directors of close limited companies can receive up to £300 worth of qualifying benefits each tax year, without paying Income Tax or National Insurance on them.

For example, your company could provide six separate £50 gifts throughout the year.

These could include:

🎁 Amazon or other qualifying shopping gift vouchers

🍫 Chocolates or hampers

🎉 Birthday or Christmas gifts

But there are a few important rules:

✅ Each individual benefit must cost no more than £50.

✅ It cannot be cash or a cash voucher.

✅ It must not be a reward for your work or performance.

✅ It must not be a contractual entitlement.

✅ The total exempt amount for a director of a close company is capped at £300 per tax year.

And remember, this isn't an additional £300 salary or cash bonus. It's a tax exemption for qualifying non-cash benefits.

It's a relatively small allowance, but good tax planning is often about making use of the little things too.

🤝 What a brilliant day at the Synergy Kent Business Networking Summit!

Today was all about meeting people, making new connections, catching up with familiar faces and being part of a fantastic Kent business community.

There was a great atmosphere throughout the day and plenty of interesting conversations with business owners and professionals from across Kent.

A huge thank you to Linda Cloke and everyone at .events for all the work that went into organising the Summit and bringing everyone together. 👏

🎤 Tomorrow's the day!

After weeks of talking about it, preparing for it and perhaps a few last-minute tweaks to the presentation… the Kent Business Networking Summit is finally here tomorrow!

I'm really looking forward to representing Freed Accountancy, supporting the Summit as a sponsor and, of course, taking to the stage to deliver my talk.

Networking has played a big part in the growth of Freed Accountancy. I've met clients, built referral relationships and made some genuinely good connections through getting out and meeting other business owners.

So tomorrow isn't just about promoting Freed Accountancy.

Freed Accountancy is growing, and I’m looking for an experienced Practice Accountant to join the team.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a flexible part-time position with the potential to grow into something much bigger.

🏠 Home-based / remote
🕒 3 days per week – 22.5 hours
💷 £30,000–£35,000 FTE, depending on experience and qualifications
📈 Long-term progression with the potential to increase days as we grow

You'll be working across accounts, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, VAT, MTD, CIS and client support, as well as helping us continue to improve the systems and processes behind the practice.

Previous accountancy practice experience is essential.

We're a modern, paperless practice that embraces technology, but still believes that good accountancy is ultimately about providing a great service and building relationships with clients.

🏔️ Back to reality after a week away!

I've spent the past week taking a proper break from work, heading up to Carlisle to spend some time with family, followed by a few days exploring the Lake District.

Running your own business can make properly switching off difficult. There's always another email you could answer, another job you could finish or something you could be planning.

But sometimes getting away from the laptop for a few days is exactly what's needed.

It's been great spending time with family, enjoying some incredible scenery and having a chance to recharge.

Now it's back home and straight into what is going to be a particularly exciting week for Freed Accountancy.

🎤 This Wednesday I'll be at the Kent Business Networking Summit, where Freed Accountancy is sponsoring the event and I'll also be taking to the stage to speak.

Quite a change of scenery from the Lake District! 😅

Back to work tomorrow. 💻
Then onto the Summit on Wednesday. 🎤

🦆 Race day is here!

We're at the Rotary Club of Canterbury Annual Duck Race today and things have become slightly more competitive than expected in the Freed household. 😂

With around 3,000 ducks taking to the water, we've got two chances of bringing home the glory:

Laura has firmly claimed #245 as her own, so there's now considerably more riding on this than when we first decided to get involved! 😂

Joking aside, it's great to be here supporting a brilliant local event and the fundraising carried out by the Rotary Club of Canterbury.

Freed Accountancy is proud to support local businesses and organisations, but it's also important to us to get involved with events happening within the communities we work in.
